I have a midget that travels around in my Diamond bag.  I unpack him with the rest of my stuff when I get to a game.  He takes care of my shoes, shin guards, etc. while I put on my chest protector and mask, etc.  Really speeds up my dressing time.

We want to see a picture of him.

If you even think about how you get dressed and need a routine on getting dressed, you have a sever OCD Problem.

My brain figured out how to dress my body a long time ago regardless if it is for umpiring, just lounging around the house or anything else.

Why to much Spincter Retention here.

Disagree.  My routine might not be your routine, but it makes your's no worse or better than mine.

Tuck shirts into compression pants.

(that's a useful tip that I just learned not too long ago)

I will have to try that... do you ever have a problem with your compression pant waistband showing?

The first thing I do is I pull out The Officials Locker Room. Then I step into The Officials Locker Room. Then I remove my street clothes while in The Officials Locker Room. Then I put on my tights while in The Officials Locker Room. Then I carefully fold The Officials Locker Room and place it in the trunk of my car. This post was brought to you by your good friends at Th_ Off___als Lo__er R__m.......

Nice plug Chris

I'd call it brazen.

No one said anything about anyone's routine or anyone's routine being better or worse.

The fact that it is a ROUTINE means it is done without having to think about the process you are actually doing.

Sorry guys.........reading this just made me chuckle........

You put your left foot in, you take your left foot out, you put your left foot in, and shake it all about.........

My typical routine is this:

At home:  Put on my boxer briefs, then nutty buddy, then jock, then compression shorts, then leggings, then Force 3 socks.  I will usually then put on my undershirt.  If I am going to a HS game, I will then put on my "business casual" clothes that I will be wearing to introduce myself to the coaches.  If it's a Pony game or travel ball, I usually just put on some shorts and sneakers.

When I get to the game site, I open the trunk, get out the towel for the ground, set up my chair, and place my keys on the ground.  I then put on (in this order) my Poly Wools, Reebok Magistrates, shin guards, Douglas CP, uniform shirt, belt with 2 ball bags. cap.  Put away the chair and towel.  Grab my mask, check my ball bags to ensure I have my indicator, pen, lineup card holder, watch and plate brush.  Lock the car and slip my keys in the zipper pocket of my left ball bag, and head to the field.

Here I go:

  1. Put on my compression pants before I leave work/home.
  2. Socks
  3. Undershirt
  4. Jock
  5. Shins
  6. Cup
  7. Pants
  8. Shoes
  9. Belt /bags
  10. CP
  11. Shirt
  12. Cap
  13. Carry my mask

I also do a final check routine before I look at my shoes, tap my shins, tap my cup, feel bags making sure I have Line up card holder, Pen, brush & Indicator, tap my, check my fly, tap my CP, make sure I'm holding my mask, make sure I have my car key.

never heard of a cup referred to as a sunflower seed and a band aid... Lmao. And yes I too spend an hour or so once I get home cleaning shoes, beating the dust out of my pants if possible and just cleaning verything else up getting ready for the next plate job.

Many first thought was the conversation between Archie and Meathead about whether to do sock/ sock, shoe / shoe or sock/ shoe, sock/ shoe. I am a left to right guy. Plate shoes, shin guards, ball bags,CP, cup, shirt. I agree the order is not important, the process is. It keeps you from forgetting things and helps get your head in the game.

This times a million.  Nothing is worse for an umpire's focus (besides seeing two bikers having sex in the woods off 17...Happy Gilmore reference for you all) than walking to the field (or on the field) only to realize you forgot something whether it be sunglasses, lineup holder, pen, cup, etc.  I did that twice this year during the high school season.  Both times it was because I forgot my lineup card holder and pen.  So I had to do the pregame meeting, run back to my car at the conclusion of the meeting, grab the holder and pen, then run back to the field and start the game without seeing any warm up pitches.  Luckily, both games were blowouts, so my disorganization didn't affect the game.   :yippie:

Precisely why I've come up with a routine as to how i get dressed, not only does the order make sense to me (it doesn't matter if it makes sense to anyone else) but it helps me to not forget anything. It also helps me do my in head pre game, this may not work for all but this is just me.

After my chauffeur drops my off my valet and I at the ballpark, I basically just stand there while he dresses me....kind of like Lee Marvin's dressing scene in Cat Balou.

But seriously, I'm usually arriving last minute for most of my games so I just throw it all on as quick as possible, no idea what the order is!
