Ok. I just did a D2 game and a Juco game and still didn't get hit in the Force Shield by Unequal. I was hit in the foot, bicep, right thumb which then deflected into the good old cup. Thought I broke my thumb, but today it is better. Had some big crocodile tears though.

12u bad travel ball games..why did I agree to call it...I have no idea.

Strangely similar, no? Haha! I was fooling around in my gear closet and inspiration struck. Can you tell which is the imposter? (I sure hope so)

Nice. I think my Stocklin probably works a little bit better than the one pictured.

Two high school tournament play games each of the next two days for the force field to be in effect. I will keep you posted

A little tid-bit ..........

I saw this thing up close and personal.  There is no way in hell I am donning this thing with a HS pitcher on the bump,.... no way.   Now, if the guys who have it feel comfy, GREAT, I'm not slamming anyone personally, I just don't see it.

And .... I had a person who has worn this rig tell what it's like, and he didn't like what he felt.

That's fine.  I wonder if you got one for free like you did your All Star if you'd change your mind at all.  How did you know your All Star was going to protect you?

First of all, who said I got my All Star for free?

Secondly, .... that's easy, ....  All-Star has been around a long time.  They develop and manufacture protective gear, ....and......they test it.  I knew (because I was a part of the development team) that they were using proven padding, plus large plastic plates.   No brainer ..........

Finally, ....... I didn't say it doesn't work, I simply commented on what I saw and gave my personal opinion.....and I reported what I was told.....

Fair enough :)

For the record, the "imposter UE" is an old foam All Star

The one on the left probably protects better. I guess I will never know since my deal for one seems to have fallen through.

Christ almighty! :tantrum: The damn thing works well. You feel some pressure that you won't feel with big plastic plates  . The trade-off is half as much bulk. It's really that simple.  :hi5:

If you have hate technology, if change and unfamiliarity are scary to you, go on a forum and blast anything other than the status quo. Then, PM me with an offer for my avatar's balloon protector.

This is what gave me pause, and what's likely giving others pause as well.  When you borrow it, strap it on, and have someone PUNCH you, you feel it, and that's a scary thought.  We don't graduate to the next level of wearing it in a game to realize that it apparently feels the SAME whether it's a punch or an 85mph fastball.

That's an absolutely brand new paradigm for many umpires that never used soft-shell.

We're not used to feeling anything.  So naturally, when we can FEEL a PUNCH, we assume (perhaps incorrectly) that an 85mph fastball will be felt even more.  Sounds like you feel a punch just the same as a fastball, and neither hurt, but it's understandable why some have a hard time making this leap of faith.

That's a great way to put it Alex. I agree, wholeheartedly, with everything you said there.

First and last time the word "paradigm" is used in a sentence on U-E.com!  :hi5:

If I were you, I would  :givebeer: .

Great verbage, Alex! I'm impressed! (Don't get cocky. It doesn't take much :D )

You know what? I could always feel when someone punched me in my West Vest before running down the first baseline to start the game. I don't feel anything different with the Unequal.

When I met Warren in Philly we looked at the Unequal Chest Protector together at the Honig's table. BTW Warren was wearing his Ump Attire cap and did get a look from the man behind the table. But this rig was interesting. There was more to it than I thought there would be. It reminded me of the Honigs K-1 to an extent. It was soft but there was something hard beneath the pad.

I often wanted the K-1 but never pulled the trigger.

I am going to continue to reserve judgement. I've read a lot of negatives about it, but there are others who are in love with this piece so it cant be all bad. Did anybody ever read anything positive on the Davis Shield CP? I don't recall it. So I don't think that is a good comparison.

If I get a partner this year who has one and will let me wear it, I will then make up my mind.

I have an old K1 and just keep it as my backup because I figure that after 7 or 10 years or whatever the padding had to be starting to go.  For me the trade off was the occasional  (you get hit with a foul ball or missed pitch 3 or 4 times a season) "punch" feeling (but still with no injury or even bruising) against the everday comfort (I work > 100 plates a year, as do many here).  I bought a platinum off of someone real cheap, and I'm happy enough with it, but it's not nearly as nice to wear as the K1 was.

Negative comments from people who don't own one shouldn't count. I own an All Star system 7 and its my least favorite CP.
I saw it and rendered an opinion....and last time I checked....personal opinions are allowed here. Am I the only one who's given a negative comment or opinion on this rig? Nope;) Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2
