The "gap" Franklin T was concerned about does not effect protection at all.  I just took a shot on it Saturday and felt nothing.

I was just reading this lengthy 7 page post yesterday and was on the fence about having my platinum retrofit w/team wendy.  LAST NIGHT I had a 17-18 Big League LL game and took a foul ball, just beneath the CP (right where TW would have extended it an inch).  Man, that ball hit my fat SO HARD, that the little bit of mucle somewhere deep underneath went into shock and cramped up.  You know how when you were little, you would punch someone with one knuckle raised and give them a "frog"?  That's what my gut did!  Needless to say, the FIRST thing that came to mind was a TW retrofit.  After I get back from Bangor, this thing is going in the mail!

How much did the retrofit for the Gold cost?

Mine cost 140.00 (139.00 and change) That included shipping.

@Timothy Do have any issues with the "wings" the rib padding on the WV Gold? I haven't retro fitted mine but hate the wings but hesitant to cut them off. I have both Gold and Platinum I know some guys cut them or tuck them under the shoulder padding for the WV Gold...just thought I'd ask your opinion on it...Also you think Team Wendy would sew the wings for the WV Gold like the platinum? To avoid cutting them off?

I have a gold and have no issues with the padding.

Well aren't you lucky! haha the wings keep coming untucked. Saw a posting here to tie them with shoelace thru the Velcro but idk...im wanting to retrofit it after summer ball which ends next week.

The wings have always untucked for me, even with the refit. I just retuck them, If the pads are on the protector, they are there for a reason.

I agree with not cutting them. I'll give TW a call to see if they sew it all together like the platinum for my gold.

i cut mine off my gold, haven't decided what to do with the platinum yet... honestly the "wings" don't protect much... at least on the gold they dont... mine still covers everything that needs to be covered... I've only worn my platinum once because of the wings... when i get the retrofit done this winter I may ask tw to trip down the wings or eliminate them altogether... haven't decided yet thus the reason why I haven't sent mine in yet... I wear my gold every plate job and love it... may end up selling the platinum like I said not sure what to do with it yet...

I spoke with TW and they stated they only have one template. Any other modifications would be extra. I have a few more tournaments then getting mine retro fitted.

I removed the wings from my Gold since the retrofit has more materiel on each side than the original. The pads were useless with the extra material.

My retro fitted gold will be delivered tomorrow, feels like I'm a kid the day before Christmas.

Is it wrong that a grown man should get excited over this?

Holy Cow! This thing is thin. It looks at least half the thickness of the original padding. I don't think it's any heavier than the original but because of the small bulk I expected it to weigh less.

Finally got mine yesterday.  I am very excited to try it out today.  The shin guards should be in this next week!

Sheila Isaac is a real sweetheart to work with. I just sent my chest protector and shin guards to her to retrofit. They should arrive to me right before Thanksgiving.

I took the advice of many here and am having the peck pads removed. No need for them. Thanks to all who shared their experiences.

Anyone who wants their protectors and/or leg guards done for either umpire school should get their gear in no later than Oct 15th to ensure delivery by departure. Sheila shared that they are starting to back up retrofit jobs.

I just received a phone call from Sheila at TW. Surprisingly, my chest protector and leg guards are finished. They will be shipped to me shortly. I received them far sooner than anticipated. I look forward to receiving them. I will post up pics of the finished goods once received.
