It would be great to have. Could nip those "bad days" in the bud early. One more piece of ABS strategy for the teams to analyze...

Looking for team wendy shins or team wendy chest protector
GerryB replied to Umpiresrock74's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
I have TW chest protector. The rig is an early generation WV Gold. What are your thoughts? -
This past Monday (wood bat, MLB rules) I had an inside move properly executed with R2, and no throw to second. Of course R2 was stunned and didn't move until P (disengaged) threw to the shortstop. R2 then broke for third, the SS threw to the third baseman for the easy out. Manager came out like a rocket screaming, "That's a balk! He has to complete his throw to second!". Nope, and after a while he burned out and left.

There's that rumor that there is a warehouse full of the Riddel's including orange ones, where they were sent when the c & d took affect.

As a mentor said to me in my early years, "Good equipment isn't made to stop the pain, it is made to keep you from going to the hospital".

Better construction, sturdier plates, better padding.

Ha, I had the same two! The Marsh was so much stiffer in person than they looked in the old catalog. Gave it away quickly.

Oddly this summer, in a college/former pro summer league, I've had to work solo. First time, two weeks ago my assigned partner had a medical emergency on the way to the game so I did three innings before a replacement arrived (city curfew the show must go on). Second time last night in the first inning, my partner took an untouched inside fastball breaking his thumb for the second time, in a different place, this season and he was wearing padding (aren't catchers awesome these days?). Normally I would go behind the plate, but I had tendon transfer surgery for my thumb (extensor rupture) in March. Good outcome, 12 weeks OT and rehab. I've been really hesitant to get back behind the plate (see above). So I went behind the mound. Both games went fine, two situations were problematic for me though. Check swings - being instinctively in base umpire mode I focussed on the bat in a bunt check swing situation. Ugh, "ball" was out of my mouth before timing could save me. The other was bases loaded hit to the outfield. I could cheat towards home but really couldn't commit there until the cutoff made his throw. Had a close play I would have preferred to take at home but could only get inside the mound area. Thankfully it was a throw to the inside of home so I could see the tag. And yes I agree ball/strike wise the high breaking ball was a challenge. One pitcher said to me "not having someone behind the catcher is really freaking me out!".

CWS Sunday6/18/23 Fla-Oral Roberts what "crossed over"
GerryB replied to Jimurray's topic in Collegiate
Agreed; I need to be really sure. But looking at the clip if I am U1 I'm going to call that. -
I have them and love them. But I bought them back when they were black. 15+ years ago maybe? Never seen the Force 3s, but I would look at them if I were in the market. But I'm not since the Douglas' have been indestructible and have turned aside everything they have gotten. They do have their famous squeak though 😜.
