CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!!

We should all go back to the balloon.  And, I'm only half kidding.

That wouldn't be the end of the world, really. In the interim, I don't know why we keep up this false macho BS of not wearing arm pads. You're not a wussy if you do, but every cluck-clucks about the Smitty if someone does. I'm getting them for next year's school season when we're usually in long sleeves/jackets early on. And for the rugrat games - if I'm unlucky to get stuck on them, I've been avoiding U10-U12 like the plague lately but it still happens - where they're still just learning to catch. Someone wants to chuckle at me from the safety of the stands? They can bite me.

Yeah, I've let out a tight-lipped son-of-a-b*tch a time or three or four...just like Gibson.  And yes, it DOES piss you off!!!  And no, F2's apology doesn't make it feel any better!

That's exactly the kind of thing that broke a buddies wrist. He's still in a cast. It's also why I keep my batter side arm behind my back. I'm not risking my dainty bones because some daddy coach wants little Johnny to get some experience as a catcher. I don't give a hoot if some say it looks bad, it's self protection in anything under HS.

I think I need to run a poll on the umptrooper suit. When you add the cost of all your uniforms and protective gear up, a full body armor suit (at least for the front half of your body) might actually be affordable. Of course a full suit with some method of cooling or heating the wearer's body would be better.  Then there's the issue of covering the derrière if it's only protective in the front. Sizing might be an issue too.

But, if we could overcome those issues, what kind of badass would a full body armor suit be?  Damn.

The helmet could be wired with the computer strike zone system they want so badly.

I just finished writing a lesson plan for an online creative and critical thinking course so my  mind is all over this "outside the box" idea right now.

It would work I tell ya.

GAH! WUHT?! Imma... sonofa... WHAT??!!... A$$hole.

Yeow. I wore one of those exact same pitches at the start of this season. Must have been the fourth or fifth game of the year, 18U "Fine Tuning" game, and you'd think the moose of a catcher behind the plate would be able to catch this thing. Inside pitch, and the big lug didn't even budge... 75+ mph, direct on the forearm, just like Gibson bore. Putz didn't even check on me either... The pitcher and the batter did! I wanted to stick my plate shoe up his ...

Foul balls are part of "life". Pass balls are bad enough. Complete bunglings and matadors like this? Inexcusable.

Maybe consider the lesser known but still badass Cylon Suit.

You may want to reconsider this for two reasons:

1.  It's not possible to put your arm behind your back without exposing the elbow bone.

2.  You will never be taken seriously by assigners and evaluators as you attempt to move up (at least not around here).

Putting your hand under your slot side thigh is a much better look, and protects your hand and wrist, while keeping your elbow pointed to the backstop.  It won't keep you from taking shots in the forearm or bicep, but those areas have muscle in front of them, and while it can still be painful, you are unlikely to sustain an injury.

I kept getting drilled in the left wrist/forearm area, so last year I started wearing a short evoshield pad over it, with the insert that hardens to the shape of your body.  Have only taken a glancing blow there since, but am glad I will have it when I need it.  Recommended.

Serious questions -- do you wear one on your right arm, too?  If not, why not -- isn't it just as exposed when you have LH batters?

Do you cover it / them?

(I'm considering whether to get one / two)

Either get 2 or just move it from arm to arm! lol

Nope, only on the left lower forearm.  That's where I experience multiple hits, because I probably have about 90% right-handed batters, so my left wrist is more exposed in the slot, with my right wrist behind the catcher.  I can tolerate one hit, but a second hit on top of a healing first hit really hurts.  I also think, without knowing, that the bone is more likely to break the second time, like metal fatigue.  I also consider it unaesthetic and unmanly, so on balance prefer no protection for the right wrist.

And no, I don't cover it. Short sleeves are cooler in both senses of the word.
