A fellow umpire was looking for new equipment ideas the other day -  showed him my Wilson Titanium with the TW pads in it.

As he was checking it out, he noticed a dented bar (right in the front) that I hadn't noticed.

He asked where it came from, I couldn't remember - THANKS TW for taking one for the team!!

I think it sold him on the pads to see that hit, and it apparently didn't rock me, because I remember those.

Or the TW pads really failed and you don't remember because you got a concussion.  ;)

I haven't had all of the fun stuff that goes with a concussion, but have had a few shots that have taken my mask off - maybe it happened then  . Seems like mask shots are down this year - good pad MOJO?

First day I put Team Wendy pads in my mask I took a direct shot 92 MPH fastball on a pitch that F1 and F2 got crossed up on in a college game. I didn't even feel it. That was in my Honigs K96 too which I would say is not one of my stronger frames. (at the time most of my gear was lost somewhere in CA when southwest put it on the wrong plane when I was flying home from NY but that's a whole different story.) Any way the point is Team Wendy mask pads are in every mask I will ever wear on the field. I even have them in several of my old masks that I don't game any more.

Don't mean to be disrespectful but a 92mph pitch you are going to feel. I don't care what you are wearing.

The trouble in all this is, no two shots to the noggin are the same, so it's impossible for us to compare pads based on blows we take.

That said, IMO, the Team Wendy pads have seems to me, and nearly every other person on planet Earth, to lessen the blows of balls to the face.

Oh, and a 92mph ball is going to be felt, no matter the pads. So feel free to disregard some folks reviews.

You sure do still feel the hard shots, it is just a lot better than the leather pads used to be. There doesn't seem to be the jarring sensation as before, more of a hit and mask moves. The biggest 'odd sensation' that I have felt is a tingling feeling in my chin and cheeks. I took a big shot a week ago doing D-1 fall ball and had that sensation. I also got a mild headache from it, but no soreness in my neck and headache was gone by the end of the game.

On another note - I know these are new but ...    Is there a shelf life of the pads? How long before they need to be replaced? I have cleaned mine, but how many cleanings is recommended before replacement?

I bought an All-Star light-weight mask. I didn't like the pads. The nylon-feeling cover scratching my 5-o'clock shadow gave me the willys (ok, I'm a wuss). I put my old Wilson leather lower pads on it. But that turned my light-weight mask into one not so light. So I have 2 questions about the TW pads:

1) What is the weight? I can't find this spec. Is the weight closer to the ALL-Star pads or the leather Wilson pads.

2) What does the "anti-microbial microfiber fabric" feel like? Is it like Underarmor material, closer to nylon or leather feel?

The pads weight-wise are closer to the All-Star pads.  I like light masks and they are still light with the TW's loaded.

The fabric is soft and does not grab stubble.  It is not slippery like leather.  I had the same concern when I got my first set.  If you buy a set and don't like them, you can get most of your money back on the used market.

Oh and as a footnote - I've had one concussion in 5 years of umpiring and it was this year wearing a mask with TW pads in it.  So you are not bulletproof with these pads in your mask, but I would still not wear a mask without TW's.

And you will also feel a 92 mph on any chest protector. However, it sounds cooler hitting a WV.

It sounds better hitting an Unequal

And because a 92 mph fears the Unequal, you hear a high pitched screaming sound as the ball approaches and disintegrates before it makes contact. Fear the Force 3.

Just got my new set of black TW from Honigs. I was a little worried as someone had mentioned that the quality was not there on some TW recent purchases. The pads I received are perfect.

Ordered mine on sunday night. Still waiting on the shipping email. Will have to call Honigs I think just to check on it.

Check your and check mine to, please.

When I spoke with Honigs on Tuesday, they stated it will be coming from the Ann Harbor location due to shortage in college station, tx. I should be getting mine in today.

I have  FedEx shipment (shoes) coming from Kansas and FedEx stated that there may be delays from the mid-west due to the weather.

I was hoping they had it is Salem. It is only a 1:15 away from me. But I guess not.

Add to this that today we had the first winter storm of the year with between 1/4" to more then 4" in Oregon.

I ordered a set of Team Wendys mask pads from Honigs online, last Sunday afternoon during the sale, and it is scheduled to be delivered today (ground shipping across the country - Michigan to California)

I believe all Honigs online orders come out of Ann Arbor, Mi., which I believe is the "parent" store, so, if someone wants to order stuff directly from your nearest Honigs, I believe you have to call your nearest Honigs directly, and, only then will you find out if sales or specials are from all stores, or just the Mi. store.

(I believe the stores outside of Mi. are franchises, not subsidiaries, but I might be wrong)

My tan ones showed up thursday/friday. Now just to figure out if I want a Diamond Featherweight or a Wilson Dynalite to put it on...
