Japan/CTP HP was in 1BLX for a play at the plate. He nailed it, bad position notwithstanding. IR confirmed the call. My question is, who reviews it. He was told by someone what the call should be. Is there an IR ump?

There are several people, at least one or two are umpires, plus  a couple of LL officials.

A friend of mine from PA has done, and I still think does the replay thing there, that is an assigned position by LL. He is a past LLWS umpire and instructor at the camp. I think that there is one of the 'assigned umpires' for the tournament that does it as well each year, when they are not on the field.

He says that the plays (close ones) are reviewed even before being asked to - that gives more time for the review and hopefully doesn't slow the game down.

He is a really good ump on the big field as well.

Can you imagine the mess when MLB starts using this?

We know the same guy, and I was going from memory that there was about four involved.

Is Jimmy doing it this year again?

I am sure they must have a few guys - lots of games going on - there has to be some time off. Wouldn't be a job I would like to do!!

I know of him, not buddies. I have talked with a PA umpire involved in the past.

That's cool - just texted him, he is there and the replay guy again this year. He chats between innings LOL

I would like to learn more about the replay process though - seems like it will be in more places now that MLB has agreed to it.

Guess who's back on the Puerto Rico vs Chinese Taipei on ESPN. He should keep it interesting, very interesting.

Ask him who is involved?

There are 3 of them - him, a guy from the west and another guy from PA. They are not using any of the 16 that come in anymore. He was the one working the other day when they overturned the 2 calls in 3 pitches. There is also a guy in charge.

Apparently the replay is just them - does not involved any of the guys that make the call.

He says that some of the guys there are making it hard on the kids by using the wrong mechanics. By the time the kids get to this tournament, they understand the basic signals like the OUT sign (that shouldn't be given) on a dropped third strike.

He is just chuckling about some of the stuff that happens.

Batter asks for time.  PU calls time, steps out and takes his mask off (using the cage). Then he looks at the batter, puts his mask back on and then steps back in to put the ball in play.

Of course, his first strike call lasted about 10 seconds.  WHY WHY WHY are they giving this guy another plate?

He also follows the catcher and ducks behind him. If the catcher moves out, so does he and his strike zone follows along.

I'll tell ya Why..... It makes for good TV to the normal person. More people are inclined to tune to see his antics and make the ratings go up!

Was wondering if anyone was going to comment about this guy doing the PR-CT game.  Woof.

Be careful. You know he is a"professional" volunteer! :fuel:

He has a tick that makes Brian O Noras  invisible, slam his open hand on closed fist, touch mask then his side.

I asked the same question of a former WS umpire. He said they all get two, evidently somebody told him to back it down, it was much less noisy after the second inning.

Ok. Positive note....senior league championship. This crew looks sharp. Comfortable. Seasoned. Relaxed.

Very good crew - they have lots of experience and had fun at the same time.HP - Paul Sammon 22 yearsU1 - Wayne Beaumier 15 yearsU2 - Keith Allison 20 yearsU3 - Ken Peterson 33 years it shows. They're wearing PWs, their caps are creased. They look like they belong in uniform. And Paul looks like he's been to a camp or 10. Very polished and professional crew. They way the corner guys stand ready is the way I'm told its taught at HWUS. And the way I see MiLB crews do it.

I have worked with Paul. Top notch in all respects

Did ya'll just see the female right field ump put the foul ball given to her down in her shirt???

WHAT????????

HA!!

I am told by a female that has done several baseball regionals that women can't put it their pocket, hips don't allow it. Evidently throwing it in takes too long so traditionally LL has used the shirt.

Then maybe they should be allowed to wear a pouch, get pants with bigger pockets, or throw the balls in since it's dead ball anyway. Never heard that crap about hips.

:-(

Are you suggesting perhaps that they wear a ball bag on the bases?

That would be a little far-fetched don't you think? . . . if they can't throw a ball to the PU from the infield, maybe they shouldn't be in the game.

SJA :-(
