Japan vs. Mexico PU looks pretty solid.

John Ignacio. He's the guy who chose me for my plate assignment last year.

This is the only game I've made a point of watching.

F6 isn't fielding a batted ball.  R2's intent is to advance to third base, not to crash F6. It therefore is not interference, in my humble opinion.

He seems to be the best PU of the games I've seen by far!

I could legitimately argue either viewpoint. Thing is, U3 had to make a decision of whether the fielder was in the act of making a play. He made that decision and, quite honestly, I respect that.

He's a guy who was a longtime umpire before he got involved in LL about 17 years ago. Quality guy and solid umpire.

If he's not working tomorrow's final, I can't wait to see who is.

The announcers got one right. That challenged play was so close it would've been a crime for replay to overturn it no matter the initial call.

But this is what's coming to MLB next year...

I agree.... Can't believe we are coming to that.  A lot more plays at the MLB level are that close on a daily basis!

I certainly hope we don't have replay like this in MLB.  It slows the game down and really takes the human element out of this beautiful game. We may not like the calls all the time but we know that's the way the game goes, and for the most part, the calls are correct.

California/Connecticut PU seems pretty solid as well....

Glad they put the best on the stick for the 2 Semi-Finals.

Whoever worked the plate in the Conn./Mexico game....... I'm at a loss for words. I can only hope he watches the game when he gets back home. WOW!

A few minor things I'd correct but mostly a solid HP. He had great position for the play at the plate, throw from F8, swipe tag. His timing was great too.

What would you correct?

The trick to calling the postage stamp is that you have to be ultra consistent. Seems to me like the teams are not quite sure what is going to be a strike.

Of course, after the travesti that the previous HP umpires strike zone was, anyone will be guessing.

Don't like the way the Japan F2 frames for like 10 seconds after a ball call!

What's with giving the count after every pitch? :question1:

Nothing wrong with that.  Remember, the LL coaches some times are dumb and need guidance.

I forgot. They're volunteers!

No matter how often you give it someone will complain it's not the right way.

I didn't say it was "the wrong way". It's over kill!

There is nothing wrong with giving the count a lot. And saying LL coaches are dumb is a gross generalization. However, it is much more important to be consistent and call the same zone for the entirety of the game.

My experience says the coaches are more likely to know the count than the beginner umpires we often have in LL.

Because it's been drilled into our heads since we were in LL.

And many strategies depend on the count.

Other than that - good observation.  :angel4:
