Those gear junkies that have had your shin guards retrofitted by team wendy, I would love to hear your reviews.  I just sent my set of WV gold equipment to Team Wendy today.  I have not seen a post about retrofitted shin guards and really wondering if anyone believes that its worth the money to have them done.

To make them fit better around your tibia area take a hair dryer to warm up the plastic and bend them a bit to from he plastic to your leg.

Completely agree. Waste of money in my mind to retro shins. The point of the Wendy concept is to minimize impact to the head.

That being said, I will likely get one of my CP's retro fitted...probably my Gold that I haven't worn in over a year.

Furthermore, you can do what you wish with your money. Post pictures if you ever get it done.

I have my WV Pro shins retrofitted and it makes a huge difference. Much less bulky and a lot easier to move around and get across the field than with the stock wilson padding. Also on mine I had them do it in one piece so that the top half of the shin guard didn't come unattached like it did with stock pads.

Ok good to know.  Mine are already on the way back from Team Wendy.  If you get some time would you mind posting a few pictures of them?

Here they are!  I start by saying that these shin guards fit like a glove.  With the retro-fit finished I can honestly say that the profile is noticeably lower.  The main plate that covers a majority of your tibia is now almost to wide.  I would like the plate to have some more curve to it but that is most likely out of the question.  One other thing some will notice is that Team Wendy does leave a stock Wilson pad in the attached to the shin guard.  Why they do that, I have no idea.  I assume it's the way the pad is connected to the plate.  All in all I believe that these shin guards are much improved and worth the money you spend as well as the time that they are gone.

That's a great idea.

 

My Wilson Platinum Leg Guards are at TW right now having the same retrofit done. I too will report back on them with pictures. I will also use your trick Fittske if that applies to my body fit as well.

 

Leg guards to retrofit are $109.95. Not very expensive if you ask me.

The hair dryer trick works well.  I took some time but they look and feel even better than before I did that.

I have had my platnium shins retrofitted. If I could do it over again I probably wouldn't have them retrofitted. Not much lower profile than the original pads. Feel like the biggest difference is with the chest protector.

Interesting .....

Team Wendy says that they will NOT do a Douglas CP (even though Fittske had his done, they don't do that anymore), HOWEVER, it apprears the process for doing the shins would be the same for the Douglas retro w/ velcro on the outside of the TW padding to attach to the plates ??

 

Am I missing something !? :shrug:

I just don't see spending all the money on shins. The number and severity of impacts to them are much less than on your CP, so I don't see any cost/benefit.YMMV

Every year I say I'm going to replace my SGs, every year my budget gets spent before doing so. Oh well...like the Cub fans say...

In almost 20 years of umpiring, I don't believe I have ever had a noteworthy hit to the legs. Everywhere else has been hit, but not in the area protected by the shin guards.

You are very fortunate. I've taken shots off the legs and knee. What some refer to as the WV Crack, so goes it with the shins. Scares people out of their skin to hear the crack.

Then you should know that you've just jinxed yourself.

 

Is there any better feeling than taking a hard shot off the shins, having the ball fire out toward the pitcher, and not feel hardly anything? I've used Davis, WV platinum and gold, and hockey official shins with the same results. Most protect really well, so Iook to comfort, fit and lightness.
