I understand, ...and let me repeat this,..... I UNDERSTAND that 99.999% of the time, you toss anything after a called K3 and you're gone, especially at the MLB level, but this looks different to me ....different than Braun's?    Discuss please ....

 

CAVEAT:  I'm not saying who's right and who's wrong, so everyone relax, ...this is a discussion about knowing/ understanding the difference of actually being shown up, and /or just being frustrated with yourself as a player, ..AND,....CAN you tell the difference?  I think it can be a fine line....

Probably, but it appears that you can't do anything physical , ...like, throw your helmet or bat in frustrastion (even if it has nothing to do with the call) on a called K3 or you're done ...

 

Unless you turn to U1 and say .... I'm not showing you up I'm just pissed off at myself, and throw your helmet

Watch the bat toss by Ross. It's practically the same as Braun's. 

 

I like both ejections. I wish there were an auto hissy-fit EJ. You are supposed to be the best, how about showing a little class.

That's probably right. But hey, that's why god invented water coolers — for throwing equipment at in frustration when you strike out!

exspecially on Brauns it wasn't the third out so that's going to get you.  In the first one it looks like the toss wasn't towards the dugout so I think that's what got him in the most trouoble.

 

Plus you don't know what might have been going on between the player or the team and the umpire earlier in the game.

It really doesn't matter whether those thrown bats were about the umpire or in self-disgust.  Imagine baseball with batters consistently throwing their bats after each strikeout.  Not a good picture is it?  And, that is what we would get if such actions are excused in these cases.  It's just not how the game should be played.

 

Now that I think about it, "Imagine baseball if players/coaches consistently _________________" seems like good test of whether a behavior warrants an EJ.

We're not mind readers, so throwing equipment has to stand on it's own.  There's one sure way to avoid ejection in that situation...

Maybe I'm misreading your post, Jeff, but it appears that you'd be okay with SOME forms of gear-tossing.  If I'm correct with my assumption, can you please explain why?  Our job is hard enough without players giving teammates and fans a show like that.

 

I say that because, even as a fan, there's no WAY I'm saying to myself "wow, he's really mad at himself on that one!"  And since the other fans know waaaaaay less about all this than I do, I know they aren't, either.

No, what I'm saying is .......YOU CAN'T do anything demonstrative when you get called out on strikes because regardless of your true intentions, you're showing up the umpire.  Like I said in the OP, ..it's a fine line that 99.9999% of the time is an EJ ......and the other thing I said is that it was a discussion on the potential of knowing the difference....

 

Looks like you really can't discern .... a 'show up, is a show up'
