The Iassogna call on Prince at the plate, he mentioned not only watching Fielder, but how he "stays on Posey's hip. I know he'll take me to the play." Great teaching/learning point. And an absolutely spot on call. "Got you right there! BANG!"

 

What an AWESOME special.  Great to hear from this crew. I was very much impressed with Danny Iassogna from this crew.  The way he "sold" his call on Fielder was great - left no doubt.  I also liked how he explained "stayed on Posey's hip..."

 

If you have not seen it, FIND IT!!!

Watching to 75 Defensive Plays tonight.  It's great to watch the plays, but through our lens.  What are the umpires doing to get into position to get these plays right?

I was so impressed with the show "3rd team" I emailed the MLB network to let them know how I felt and with my urging to explore more umpire related content. I know that MLB network is  more game/player driven, but here in the off-season, an umpire interest program would find an audience.....

 

I urge you all to do the same.....

I really enjoy Mike Pereira on Fox NFL broadcasts as well as his column on MSN/FOX Sports.  Perhaps FOX or MLBN would consider adding that dimension to their baseball coverage. (And no - Tim He-who-shall-not-be-named doesn't count.)

I really think they're (MLB) is heading in the right direction.  The key is to be able to be articulate so the average Joe audience can make sense of the rule.  I also think it's tougher for baseball because a runner is either safe or out. 

 

However, I was listening to some replay games on the radio today and heard an announcer talk about how F1 got away w/ a balk by throwing to 2b to pick off R1 w/o first stepping off.  (R1 broke early to 2b) that's the stuff we have to battle through.  Thousands of people hear that on the radio and now they think that's the rule.

Sorry for being specific regarding "He-who-shall-not-be-named".

 

I did think of one thing that could have improved the program - that the series would have gone 7 games.  It could have been a full two hours show and I would have liked to see (& hear) Gorman and West work the plate.

Not only has my respect toward Joe West increased, it's even gone up a notch on Jim Leyland after seeing how he handled the close play at home.

 

I also enjoyed hearing how personable the conversations are, especially with managers. When Leyland came out, Dan's first line was "Hi, Jimmy!" In those situations, I'm usually quiet until the manager says something. It's possible this was an exception, simply because Dan knew what he was coming out for and wanted to get the conversation going. Either way, the communication between the players and managers was eye-opening.

I must totally concur ....  my thoughts about Joe West have changed, and if you watch the show and pay attention, yours probably will too!  What a soft spoken, nice guy! LOL :)

 

And the Iassogna exhcange with Leyland is just amazing!!  Especially when Fister gets hit in the head, Dan, Jim and the trainer come out, and the first thing Leyland says to Iassogna is "nice call Danny" ...you can see the look on DI's face, like ..."what did he just say??" then the smile and the "thanks Jimmy I really appreciate that" .......  awesome stuff!

 

Personally, .... I've found Iassogna to be TOO animated on the field, or, ... OVER-animated (if that makes sense) ....not saying he's bad....but just seems over animated.... TOTALLY changed my tune about him after seeing this show.  What a nice guy!

This is really frustrating. I don't watch a lot of TV to begin with, but when I want to watch something, I can usually find a way to get eyes on it. Not in this case. MLB Network doesn't have a carrier in Canada, and I still haven't seen this pop up anywhere online.

I am surprised it is not available for viewing on the MLB Network's website. I have MLB Network, but missed it. A search on the DVR shows nothing out a couple weeks. Hopefully they replay it.

I watched top 50 plays at the plate and 25 EJs last night. Interesting to see how positioning has changed over the years. The EJ special was kinda so-so because they didn't offer explanations. I will say that the announcers for the ChiSox are total idiots. How about when Bobby V got gum spit on him! Lol funny! Seems to me that there may be some credence to the call for accountability and getting calls right. I will never speak ill of another ump, but some of the misses are almost blatant. If you kick it...own it. I will rewatch tonight to see the finer points I may have missed. All in all, good shows.

I have the show on DVR and I've seen it, but what I can't figure out is MLB Network's scheduling.  They will replay a show about the top 10 bat boys 18 times a week, but they've shown this show a grand total of about three times since it debuted.  It isn't like they have much else to fill time with during this time of year.

I live in Southern Ontario and I have access to US satellite TV (Dish Net). If you look around or Google "Dreambox" you may find someone in your area that provides this service. It is much cheaper than Star Choice or Express Vu. It is kind of a grey area and they do not hide it, and the Mounties have not come knocking on my door.

I haven't seen it on (or in the listings) again.  The only DVD copy I have seen was the one Rob Drake brought to our clinic.  We watched it during our lunch break.  I didn't get a chance to ask if the DVD was only available to MLB umps or otherwise.

i have scoured the internet for hours and gone to every site i could think of that might have it and have found nothing :( can't even find it on amazon or eBay on DVD.

I wonder what the chances are that they would hand out the dozens of  "personal copies" needed if we all wrote to them asking for it.  If we get enough people to contact them, maybe they would at least offer it for sale or re-air it on MLB Network

I don't know but I got home from work today and the video was sitting on my door step. Excellent video and absolutely incredible!!
