I have not done any USSSA games, but my son plays on a USSSA team (12U) here in Va and it is $40. Been $40 since he was in 10U as far as I know.

We had our district clinic this past weekend with umpires from our region and umpires with World Series experience. They also confirmed the change. If a pitcher starts an at bat 19, pitches all the way up to and including 34 during that same at bat, he can pitch the next day. If he hits 35, then he must observe the days of rest requirement for 35. The same rules apply for all the days of rest thresholds.

I let it play out within reason. For example, a clean hit scoring the 5th and 6th runs, team gets the ball in relatively cleanly, then I calmly say that's five and switch em up. If things are wild, I will be emphatic that 5 runs have scored and the play is over.

I have the Oakley Black iridium lenses that I use all the time in the field. I do however take them off if skies are overcast. I may have to look into the VR28 lense. I don't wear sunglasses to call the plate. Maybe I should, but I have not tried them under my mask as of yet to determine how well they stay on when taking the mask off. I don't want to damage a $180 pair of sunglasses.

I wear either a 14 4E or a 15 standard depending on what the store has in stock. Never had a problem.

I can wear a 15D or 14-4E in NB sneakers, and I have a pair of Reebok Magistrate 15-4E plate shoes. Based on how those fit, I was looking for a 14-4E pair of the Magistrate field shoes, but could not find any. I am going to try the standard width 15's. I just ordered them for $40 from Anaconda Sports. Has anyone ordered from them before? With their restocking fee, and return shipping, if they don't fit, I will just put them on Ebay or something.

Do they give you access to the updated RIM when you join the registry? Does it add any explanation on the new exception at VI-(d)?

Exactly. I like it. It will keep the batter from havine to stand around waiting for a pitching change mid AB. However, I can't convinve our President that I am right. I have compared this regulation to VI-© which folllows the same format. Tried to explain that the rule can't be the same as last year because they added an "exception" in the same format as the exception that allows players to go over their daily maximum. Our President got his interpretation from the district who is now going to seek interpretation from the region. To me, it could not be any clearer. The ONLY problem I see with the rule is on the reporting side. When you looked at an online pitch count report that showed a pitcher over his daily max, you knew it was because he finished a batter, If you see 23 online, you won't know if that is 18 and he finished a batter to get to 22 or a straight 23. Leagues will have to start recording in a format similar to 23 (20) to show that the pitcher went to 23, but is eligible to pitch with 0 days rest.

Regulation VI (d) has been amended to read, in part: Applies to: Baseball & Challenger Rule Books EXCEPTION: If a pitcher reaches a day(s) of rest threshold while facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch until any one of the following conditions occurs: 1. That batter reaches base; 2. That batter is retired; 3. The third out is made to complete the half-inning. The pitcher will only be required to observe the calendar day(s) of rest for the threshold he/she reached during that at-bat, provided that pitcher is removed before delivering a pitch to another batter. Summary and Implementation: For the 2013 season, wording was revised allowing a pitcher who reaches his/her imposed days of rest threshold while facing a batter to continue to pitch until the current batter has been retired or reaches base.

In the 2013 book, LL added an additiona exception to regulation VI-d. The d section is the one talking about the days of rest after pitching x number of pitches. Here is the exception: "If a pitcher reaches a day(s) of rest threshold while facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch until any one of the following conditions occurs: 1. That batter reaches base; 2. That batter is retired; 3. The third out is made to complete the half-inning. The pitcher will only be required to observe the calendar day(s) of rest for the threshold he/she reached during that at-bat, provided that pitcher is removed before delivering a pitch to another batter." We had our first off season training tonight, and the league president heard from someone above him that nothing had changed from last season and it did not mean that a pitcher could say pass the 20 pitch threshold (pitchers age 14 and below) during an at bat and still pitch the next day. (at-bat starts at 18, finishes at 23). The reasoning was that as soon as the pitcher hit 21, that a new threshold was reached and that became the governing threshold. I read it differently. I consider the thresholds to be >20, >35, >50, and >65 so that in the scenario above, he would be able to pitch the next day. Otherwise, why include the exception at all? Has anyone looked at this yet?

So black hat/ball bags (both sides for me. I never wear just 1). White shirt has blue piping. Blue hat/ball bags. If you're asking about the best place to purchase, it's all preferential. I prefer ump attire. Some guys like Honig's. There are a half dozen sites. Google is your friend. Thanks. The info on colors is what I was looking for. I started umping last year for little league and hoping to join the local association this year to get some travel type games. Our LL does a lot of training etc so I wouldn't consider it the same as most LLs. I probably did 30 games or so last season mostly behind the plate. I am beginning to invest in my own gear and wanted to match the colors right.

I am surprised it is not available for viewing on the MLB Network's website. I have MLB Network, but missed it. A search on the DVR shows nothing out a couple weeks. Hopefully they replay it.

I am looking for a good all in one location source on proper attire. For example what color hat (navy/black) goes with which shirts, what color ball bags, ball bags on both sides or one, etc? Anyone know of one?

I have not yet jumped to for pay umpiring, but I do deduct miles I drive for Little league under the charitable mileage provisions.

Right or wrong, if I am calling a game by myself (happens mostly in AA/AAA minors if it does), I explain to the coaches that I am only one person due to lack of volunteers. I let them know that I will hussle to get into the best position possible to make calls, but that I will not see every little detail. We had a coach pitch game get a little heated one season so the following season they tried to get an umpire at all the coach pitch games by asking all teams to umpire 3 games (could be done by parents, coaches, or manager). Didn't work as there were simply too many games to cover. We still ask the same thing of the coaches/teams but don't cover coach pitch games - the base coaches call the games. Pretty sad when emotions run so high in a coach pitch game...
