I do mostly to remove the occasional scuffs from errant pitches and foul balls. I avoid making it shiny by using 3M rubbing compound (it also fills in fine scratches).

I don't use a helmet, but from a hockey perspective - is the polish or whatever safe for the plastic of the helmet? Does it soften or damage it any way?

Goalie helmets have a special procedure when they do anything to theirs that have to meet specific guidelines.

Just asking, so I can pass it on to guys on my board.

Mine is the matte finish so it can't be polished but I do use a wet rag to remove dust/dirt between games

This has to be the most inappropriate yet relevant title yet...

When I did wear a bucket, I polished it every week.

Hahahaha didn't even notice till you mentioned it

I don't polish mine. My mom told me once polishing it would make me go blind....

Hence - you are now an umpire!! :cool2:

All-Star sells a couple of aerosols. One is a helmet cleaner and the other is a polish. I think they are designed for the football helmets they manufacture, but they told me they would work on the MVPs as well. I use them from time to time. Mainly just a wipe down though.

I don't wear one preferring to go traditional however as far as scuffs....WD40 works wonders and will remove them with ease....

Matte Finish on mine....Just wipe it down with a wet rag to get the dust off...Those Mr Clean foam scrubbing pads take any scuffs off from foul balls, just don't scrub too hard!
