The biggest concern I would have with this protector is the amount of Velcro that's used. Velcro can often lose its "crispness" after consistent use. It would suck if after a year or so the Velcro doesn't stick as good. Then you have to find a seamstress to replace the Velcro. Hopefully it holds up well.

I haven't made any adjustments out of the box except for the back straps. On the next picture, the torso protection is below my belly button. I have my index finger pointing at my belly button as a landmark.

For me, I'm considering completely removing the torso extender since the CP protects my ribs. Again, for those who desire a longer CP, there is plenty of room to extend.

I removed the extra torso protection and the CP still completely covers my ribs.

I'm home alone now, so the best I could do was to remove the CP and take a picture with it on the box with a tape measure.

Here is a side view:

1/8" is probably the velcro too.

It must really wrap then, because the "on person" shot looks totally different than "in the bag" laying on the floor ...

I wonder why there are plastic panels over the collarbone and shoulder. If it's good enough to protect my heart and ribs, why isn't it good enough for those other parts?

Just sayin', fellas. It makes no sense.

How many times do I have to tell you, it is NOT plastic. It is the EXO material without the neoprene covering. It is the same stuff that is on the other parts, just exposed.

Posted

Probably about eight more times, because it looks just like hard, shiney, molded plastic, and not the flexible EXO stuff.

Johnny, you've got one in your hands. Plastic caps, or not?

Posted

I am sure that EXO stuff can be molded into whatever what they want...but I will wait and see what Johnny says. He is the guy that actually has one.

I was going by the fact that they said EXO on them....oh well

I did put in a question to the Force3 folks about why the EXO stuff was good enough to protect my heart, ribs and sturnum, but not good enough for my collarbone and shoulders. I'll let you know what they say.

Could be for positioning and sturdiness. Could be for appearance. A lot of guys don't believe their assurtions anyways so take the shoulder pads away and now how many will buy it? Don't know for sure. Looking forward to testing it out.

perhaps, because the collarbone is a particularly breakable bone with very little muscle or even flesh covering it, while the ribcage covered with pecs and abs do quite a good job absorbing impact themselves.

my guess is that plastic caps are thinner, not to mention infinitely cheaper than extra exo material, and for whatever reason the unequal abdomen design was different enough from WV design to skirt the patent laws and still have plastic shoulder caps.

My guess is that the plastic pieces or for the purpose of pressure deflection. Bones in the shoulder and collarbone area can break with very little pressure. Yes the exo material may drastically reduce the force of a striking blow, but may not do much to remove the pressure of the blow. So even a blow that hits an area that does not have a rigid piece of material like plastic could cause enough pressure to break a collar bone.

But this is only a guess :)

I just got word from Jason at ABUA that my CP will be shipped early this coming week. Then I can take a beating with my "ball on a stick" and let you all know how well this thing works.

Get this on video. I'm sure it will be more realistic than the ones on the unequal site.

I'm more worried about it not being able to make my heart stop beating. I want big time protection over my ticker.

That guy who takes a hammer to his freaking dome should tell me that any blow to a skin covered blow won't be felt at all. Those plastic caps tell me otherwise. (Either that, of this guy just enjoys getting hammered).

I got burned by the Davishield. I really wanted it to work. It fit so nice, and was so comfortable. A slim fitting hardshell, what could be better? Well, it didn't work as advertised, and Gerry said if I put it on, I own it. No refunds. (How'd that work out fer ya, Ger?). But I'm all for new technology. I have Team Wendy pads in all my masks. I love better mouse traps. I'm just waiting someone, who isn't being paid, to give me the thumbs up.

I will put it on video, and it will either be the best or the worst publicity unequal ever got.
