How Many Umpire-Empire Members Have You Worked a Game With or Met in Person?

Umpire-Empire locks topics which have not been active in the last year. The thread you are viewing hasn't been active in 3578 days so you will not be able to post. We do recommend you starting a new topic to find out what's new in the world of umpiring.

I love this site. I was invited to join via a private message from Warren/UIC back in 2008 on Umpire.org. I'm so glad I accepted.

Through this site I've had the pleasure to meet and on occasion work games with several members. I've also encouraged several of my partners over the years to join. Several have.

To date I've met or worked with the following.:

Pete Reiser- worked toumey with him and summer ball as well as Mid-America Advanced Camp attendance in Springfield. I miss him. Great guy.

Haid d'Salami- when I first moved to Kansas I private messaged him about who to contact for game assignments. I also worked some summer legion ball with/for him in Warrensburg, MO and attended a Mariners at Royals game with him and his family where he wore Mariners gear and was obnoxiously supporting M's in KC section. Hahaha. Good times.

Cuban- one of my original umpiring friends when I lived in KY ( the state not the jelly. Hahaha). Worked many games with him. Socialized and counseled. Attended Music City 3 Man camps with him where he has won awards from instructors. Great umpire.

MidAmUmp- I work summer high school showcase and college woodbat league games for Jason. Attended Mid-American Advanced Camp with him. Another great umpire with tremendous knowledge that he loves to share.

UmpJM- we met and spoke for a few minutes at Chicago NCAA clinic in 2008. Another great resource.

JKUmpire- also met and shared a Chicago deep dish pizza meal paid for by JimKirk at a pizza parlor with John and several umpires at that 2008 NCAA clinic.

JaxRolo- I sought out Rolo and fed him twice when I traveled to Jacksonville for work while I was with Wounded Warrior this summer. He tried to find a game we could work together but timing was bad. Since my mother lives in FLA I'm sure we will make it happen eventually.

UmpStu-was fortunate to meet Stu and work an MSBL World Series game together in October. He has a great strike three mechanic. Unfortunately we had both worked three 9 innings each with two plates each and had games early next day so no socializing. Hope to make that happen

KenBAZ- I reached out to Ken while I was in AZ and we met for lunch. He paid. Helluva guy. I am seriously considering a move to PHX so I will definitely be leaning on Ken for advice on assigners to work for, places not to live, etc. And hopefully we will work together.

Magic- he messaged me about where and when I was working in PHX as he and another umpire from SoCal were passing through on way to Tucson for Jim Evans' Fall Classic. He dropped by while I was working plate for 70 plus age group (Yes! 70 plus guys playing baseball! Unbelievable). We talked a bit for a few innings but he had to get back on road. Maybe another time.

Last but not least- Warren and I email and speak on phone occasionally. We've consulted with each other on some umpiring and U-E issues. Great guy and great website. Thanks Warren.

Anyone else care to share who you've met on here?

You only posted this for the bragging, didn't you? >_> Not sure if it counts as "in person" but I've interviewed LMSANS for a school assignment and I've worked with @MYFER. (Even though he rarely makes an appearance on the site and always starts fights.)

I may have the chance to get together with some users in SoCal next August if I get to go to an umpiring camp I want to attend.

Not trying to brag. Just bored. Trying to spark some conversations. This is a huge part of my life. Umpiring and this site. I love it. I take it seriously but I also like to have fun and try to share that side too. I know I miss the mark sometimes but it is a great resource we have here. I'm just happy to be able to share.

I have only worked with two U-E members  I have worked with @D62Blue a few times.  We both joined the same high school association in the same year.  I worked with @Kevin Finnerty twice when he was gracious enough to invite me to work some UCLA off-season scrimmages.

I have met 3 other members. @Magic is also in the high school association, is one of my assigners and is a good friend  Oddly enough, we have never worked a game together.  I met @JonnyCat a few years ago at a clinic and saw him again at the Wendelstedt clinic the weekend before Thanksgiving.  I met @Chris Hickman at the MLB clinic in Compton a few years ago, though he probably doesn't remember.  I was very new on the site at the time.

I'll be in KC over Christmas, so maybe @Majordave and I can get together for a beer so we can add one more to each other's list.

I met Magic at the Jim Evans camp in October.

It is great to branch out and meet other umpires from around the country. It is pretty amazing that while we have different life experiences and reasons for umpiring, we all have baseball experiences that bring us together. I am looking forward to hitting some camps down South or MidWest in the future.

I have been a U-E member almost as long as Warren.  He and I have had phone conversations over the years and exchanged many emails.

I had the privilege and pleasure of meeting Mike Taylor a few years back.  Truly one of the highlights of my umpiring career.  i would go to the area where Mike lived to play golf for a few days.  I dragged my friends (non-umpires) to meet with Mike at one of the fields he was responsible for.  It was like walking with the ward-boss, everyone knew him and had something to say to him.  We also attended a couple of "A" games over the years.

Mike had to try to organize an all-U-E-umpired tournament a few years back.  It was a September weekend and one of those late summer storms blew up the coast and wiped out the games before they could happen.  It was one of those storms where they cancelled the games on Thursday based on the forecast.

As Rulekeep mentioned, I did have an extended online conversation with her.

I have tried to get some partners to join, but if they did, they keep silent.  I do look forward to meeting some of the Jersey guys at clinics.  I had the opportunity this past year, but something came up and I had to cancel.

@Thunderheads is the only one I've worked with, but I've met Jim Kirk, Jeff C., and plateumpire... One of my Junior umps joined a while back, but I don't think he's made a post since his intro. He still umps, just not here. He's probably inactive by now.

I have never worked with anyone from the U-E Site. I do know Grayhawk. Like he said, I assign him winter ball and summer games. I also talk to him on a regular basis on the phone. And he helps me run a Pony Clinic twice a year.

I met MajorDave in Phoenix. I was hoping we could grab some lunch but that 70+ game was taking way too much time. I think Dave's partner said it best, 70+ baseball is like a U10 Baseball game, except they hit the ball further.

I met Mad Mike at the Jim Evans Clinic. Of course he didnt tell me who he was until the last night at the Banquet. I wish I would have known who he was earlier. We could have had more time to socialize.

I'll have my people get in touch with your people.  :fuel:  :rollinglaugh:

We can definitely make it happen though. I'll keep in touch with you both as we get closer to "baseball season"

And if anyone travels near the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, I would be more than happy to entertain.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know some of you guys through here; however, have yet to meet anyone in person.

I keep thinking I may have worked with UE members here in AZ and didn't know it. I really enjoyed meeting Major Dave since we have much in common and he was working with some of my partners.

I have worked with Soapbox, Richvee and Mhoffman - excellent umpires all!

Well, thank you, kind sir. I was glad we finally got to get on the field together. Always fun to work with a good umpire!

I've also worked games with KevinK. The epitome of professionalism.

I'm sure I'll have a game with MHoffman sooner rather than later.

I have also recommended this site to partners, and I know some have at least lurked.

I have worked with @Richvee & @mhoffman..... both top notch umpires. I'd take any field with either one.

Met @th3 last year at a clinic, but have yet to have the pleasure of sharing the field with him.

Would love to meet others living or travelling through through the great Garden State.

No, for the most part the better player they are the more they are able to keep youth baseball in perspective. Some of the older guys are way out of touch with rules that have changed but for the most part yhey appreciate you working hard to get calls right and keep the games miving. We have one ex MLB player that most guys dread getting but I didn't have him.
