Scrubbing bubbles

Is this just your basic bathroom cleaner? Is it safe for leather?

A ton of the guys at CDP my week were using it. I've yet to try it, but it worked well for them.

Used it for years. No real issues. Went to Murphy's oil/water this year.

I have used it for about 4 yrs... I have no problems, no cracking of the shoes.. easy to use, and cheap.

Get the one that spray on blue and turn white.  I changed from the regular one to that one and the difference is awesome.  After clean it a coat of hair spray and your shoes will look like a $1,000,000.00.

Let's always remember kids that this stuff shouldn't  be used for EVERY cleaning.   Treat your shoes like you'd treat any shoes and protect and clean the leather, etc ....

 

Scrubbing Bubbles is a kitchen cleaner period, and does help w/ getting mud and crap off of your shoes, but isn't/shouldn't be the only way you clean them off.

not at all, .... talk away about it .... what I wanted to do is remind any newcomers that you probably shouldn't clean w/ SB "every time" you clean your shoes ..... SB isnt' made for shoes/leather, etc ....so, .... use it sparingly....  sage advise I think...  YMMV

I have used SB since I started umpiring 6 years ago and use it every time I clean my shoes. During the spring I probably clean them every other night if not every night and in the summer through the fall I probably clean them ever 3-4 days depending on my schedule. I've never had a problem with it hurting my shoes at all. I get a new pair of base shoes ever 6 months or so because I do so many games but that it from normal wear and tear not cleaning them. My most used plate shoes are my Reebok Magistrate IIs and I've had those for 5 years now and they still look brand new even after using SB on them for almost every cleaning.

I use to use scrubbing bubbles as my daily cleaner and never had any issues. A year or two ago, I stopped using it for may daily cleaning and started using Murphys, but I still use scrubbing bubbles for a deeper cleaning. 

 

I like how scrubbing bubbles gets into the stitching and gets the dirt out. But Murphy's is super cheap. I bought a bottle at Sams club about 2 years ago and still have most of it. and I use more than the recommended dilution of 2oz per qt or whatever it is.

Fantastic spray cleaner works great, as well, and a friend of mine owns a shoe-repair shop, and says fantastic is safe for leather, too.

Here's a curveball............  I saw a couple mention "leather".  Has anyone used it on patent leather?  All I use is a spray bottle with water (and a toothbrush for the sticthing) and a soft towel.

Just used it on three pairs of shoes and it worked really well.  I usually just use water from a spray bottle, but the scrubbing bubbles got them much cleaner.  Very good prep for a thorough shining.

 

I was watching a UCLA scrimmage yesterday and the plate guy had the Zig Magistrates that looked almost like patent leather.  He said he takes them to a shoe guy that does it for him.  Anyone else have this done?

I was thinking about this ............have a local "cobbler" ...yes, .... the real deal ....I may see what he charges to do both my NB and Reeboks for next year ....may be worth it and have them shine up easier throughout the year

I tried getting a local shoe guy to shine up my B/W magistrates but he would not do it due to the white...if you have all black shoes this might be a good option.

If you want a patent leather shin look that lasts more than a few games or so taking it to the cobbler may not be the right thing to do. It's not super expensive to have done but it will only last you 10-15 games depending on field conditions. Hairspray has the same affect and is much cheaper in the long run. It wont damage your shoes and it only takes 1-2 coats to look really good 3 coats if you want it to look like fresh patent leather. Also the hairspray trick makes cleaning your shoes a breeze. I typically clean my shoes by spraying on a coat of SB then wiping it off. Then I come in with windex and scrub it in so to speak with a shoe brush. Then wipe it off and apply another coat of SB and scrub it in then wipe it down and dry it all off. Fallow that with a coat of polish, black for all black shoes and clear for shoes with white on them. Sometimes if needed on the shoes with white I'll rub the white down with some fabuloso. Then after polishing spray on a few coats of hairspray and they look even better than when you pull them out of the box for the first time.

Use a nylon scrub brush and hot soapy water. I always spray the surface dirt off first with hot water. If you want a great shine put a little baby oil on a sponge and spread it on them. Only issue is dust is more prone to stick to the baby oil.
