Ok so I have been doing some reasearch lately and am at a loss. I have my heart set on the wilson west vest PRO model. This is the one that looks like the charcoal but it is black in coloration. Does anyone have any experience with this CP or does anyone have any advice on the wilson hard shell CPs. Everywhere I have looked online have almost zero information on the west vest pro. Thanks everyone in advance.

Also I am 5'6 170lbs and am having some trouble deciding on what size to go for as well.

You're talking about the West Vest Gold.

All the WV CPs are solid--the Gold and Platinum are both professional-grade, and the Charcoal is a step down from those. The major difference between the Gold and Platinum is their shape and where they have their protection. Your stance is generally going to be the factor that decides which one of those you choose.

To measure for your CP, measure from your neck to where you want it to end. That distance is the size you want.

No he's talking about the "pro" not the gold. http://www.homerunmonkey.com/homerun-wilson-umpire-west-vest-pro-chest-protector.html If you give them a call I'm sure they could help you out. I've never used this protector but I know a few guys who do college ball you love it. Hope this helps

A few years back, Amazon had these on sale for $30, and I bought a bunch for all the guys I knew who needed an upgrade. They're stout, solid, and big. They don't fit the same as a Gold or Platinum, and yeah, they're for bigger (wider) guys. But it offers great protection, and is a quality rig.

i have the charcoal and when it needs relplacing i will buy another charcoal..i have heard guys complian about the fit of the platinum but never about the charcoal...i love it and use it up to HS varsity

thank you all so much for the advice. so it is my understanding that the west vest pro is generally a bit of a wider CP?

Yes. The Gold will form to your physique much more readily than the "Pro," which is really a redesigned original West Vest. I have both the Douglas and the original WV, and the WV is somewhat bulkier.

I must recommend the Gold. Previously owned ones are popping up on ebay for $100 or so, and a new one can be had for $134 from Epic Sports.

(I always issue a warning when I refer anyone to Epic, which has a Draconian return policy. Your size is M-L, so make sure you designate that. If you want a worry-free transaction, always go to Ump-attire.com.)

The other main reason why I am considering the pro is because of the price that I can get it for. Our local sporting goods supplier does a ton of business with wilson and told me they could get the west vest pro shipped to my door for 80 bucks brand new. Its either this or i pony up and buy the gold....

I gave in and purchased a Gold. Worked with it for the first time yesterday in the cage and I have to say it's the best money I have spent on gear so far.

KFinn...I just ordered a "Gold" from Epic and received it about a week ago. The one I received does not have the MLB logo at the bottom but WV logo. Do you know of this is an older or newer version of the "Gold"? Do you also know the difference between the two versions?

UPDATE: I just returned from our local sporting goods store and got the west vest gold and platinum prices quoted.

WV gold: 130$

WV platinum: 120$

I assume these are pretty darn good prices but if anyone knows of anything better let me know please!
