Base Shoes - Mizuno G3, G5 or Reebok NFL Turf Trainer
Viper replied to ukce1861's topic in Umpire Equipment
dont laugh but I used to sell shoes for a living Granted this does not make me an expert by any means, although I did learn some very useful things during my 2 years in the shoe business. In my humble opinion Mizuno makes some of the best shoes I have ever seen. ESPECIALLY the wave line. Also, through college and high school baseball the only cleat that I could wear without extreme discomfort was Mizuno. I was a catcher and needed something that would hold up and not kill my feet at the same time. The G5 is an outstanding choice if you end up choosing between the G5 or G3, and you will be more than pleased im sure. Fittske24 is correct Mizuno tends to run a half size small. EDIT...those Nike trainers are a pretty good looking pair of kicks though :GL: -
Thank you so much Kevin. I really appreciate the advice and the details as to what is happening with Plus Pos. Its unfortunate I did not know about this in the first place or I never would have given them a chance.

*sigh* I guess lesson learned the hard way. Any advice on how I should handle this because at this point I have run out of ideas.

NO!!!!!!!! and here is why. I ordered a mask from plus pos on feb 26th. The mask arrived 2 days later with torn pads. I tried to call plus pos to get this issue straightened up...it took me three days to get a hold of them. Once i finally got on the horn with him, i told him that the mask pads were torn and that i would like to return the mask. He told me that as soon as he received the mask that he would refund my money. So i sent the mask back and did not hear a word back from him for about a week and a half. I called him back (once again, it took me a couple of days to get on the phone with him) and he told me that he had not received the mask. I checked the tracking number...it read delivered. I checked the address three or four times to make sure i sent the mask back to the right place...the address was correct. He told me that he was going to look into the matter and call me back. Three weeks go by with no response. At this point in time i am a little perturbed to say the least, because i do not have a mask OR my money back. I then sent him an email that basically said, I dont have a mask or my money back something needs to be done about this. Three days later I receive a package in the mail from plus pos with a mask in it. The only problem is it is not the mask I originally ordered nor is it a mask that i would ever consider putting on my face...call me spoiled Today is april the 26th. I ordered the mask TWO months ago and have absolutely nothing to show for the 69.00 (54.00 for the mask and then the 15.00 it took to ship the mask back) that I am in to this transaction. I will be sending the mask back tomorrow. Moral of the story I would reconsider doing business with plus pos. My experience has been a nightmare. Your experience may be different and honestly I hope it is. I apologize in advance for my rant but it felt good to finally get that off my chest.

oakley m frame is the only way to go. I have been wearing them since high school baseball. They are the only sun glasses that were comfortable whilst wearing a mask. You cannot go wrong with them. I would also note that if you go this route you can find some nice deals on ebay all the time. Just bought a pair that came with a black iridium lens, dusk/dawn V28 lens, and a black hard shell case for 123 bucks.

Vouch for campbell. I just recieved a pair of davishins from him. Fast shipping and the transaction was very smooth!

Viper replied to Viper's topic in Umpire Equipment
The other main reason why I am considering the pro is because of the price that I can get it for. Our local sporting goods supplier does a ton of business with wilson and told me they could get the west vest pro shipped to my door for 80 bucks brand new. Its either this or i pony up and buy the gold.... -

thank you all so much for the advice. so it is my understanding that the west vest pro is generally a bit of a wider CP? -
Ok so I have been doing some reasearch lately and am at a loss. I have my heart set on the wilson west vest PRO model. This is the one that looks like the charcoal but it is black in coloration. Does anyone have any experience with this CP or does anyone have any advice on the wilson hard shell CPs. Everywhere I have looked online have almost zero information on the west vest pro. Thanks everyone in advance. Also I am 5'6 170lbs and am having some trouble deciding on what size to go for as well.

Thanks for the help! Now how am I supposed to lace up the whole shoe with only 10 inches of cord? hahaha you could always buy more cord! using paracord to lace my plate shoes is quite possibly the best modification to my gear thus far. It is so nice to not have to worry about old shoestrings breaking all the time.
-
I know this topic is quite old, but to whomever asked how to get the paracord burnt in a way that would allow you to pass it through the eyelets of a shoe...there is a way. It takes some time and patience though. All you really need is a pair of needle nose pliers and a zippo. The regular bic lighters will not work because you have to hold them the entire time. Just light the zippo on your desk and GENTLY run the end of the cord through the flame. You should be able to get the cord to a temperature where you can mold it with the pliers. If the end of the cord starts to burn and bubble, cut off the burnt end and start over. Keep working at it. You could also just lace the shoes using electrical tape on the ends of the cord, then burn the ends once the shoe is laced. Hope this helped and if im repeating something already said sorry! The zippo way is much cleaner looking in my humble opinion though. Viper

Thanks everyone for the response! Pete, R3 was standing in the dirt around home plate making no attempt to get back to HP or into the dugout. Just merely standing there. I figured that I messed up the ruling, but it was a scrimmage at the time and the run did not influence the outcome considering it was a blowout. Either way its not something that I want to get wrong in the future becuase I have dealt with more experienced coaches and know what you are talking about when they will call you out on rulings. You gotta know your stuff! So its my understanding that the catcher running over to tag R3 was considered an appeal? And what I should have done was looked at the catcher and asked if he was appealing R3 touching HP? Thanks again guys.

So last night me and my partner we umpiring a little league game using little league rules and the darndest thing happened. Here is the situation. Bases are loaded with two outs. The batter hits a ball into the right-center gap, which scores two runs, the runners on 2nd and 3rd. Unfortunately, the runner scoring from 3rd did not touch home plate and the runner from 2nd did. The catcher who has the ball at this time walks over and tags the kid out who did not touch home plate. For some reason the kid who did not touch the plate was making no attempt to touch home and there was no appeal on the play as to whether or not he touched home. Once the catcher tagged the kid who missed home, I called him out and told the coaches that the run that scored after him would count. I did this because there was no force on the play and the third out was made after the kid from second had touched home. Im not sure if this is the right call and this situation confused everyone that i talked to. Hopefully, someone here has some insight for me! According to the rulebook, the run cannot score only if the play is appealed, but the way the play unfolded it didnt seem like there was an appeal. Help and thanks! Viper

hello everyone, I got into umpiring mainly because I love the game so much and found that it was difficult for me to completely remove myself from baseball. This year will be my 4th season umpiring at our local Little League in Tennessee and I have recently been moving up into travel ball. Hopefully Ill get to know some of you all pretty soon. Take it easy! Viper
