I don't have the frame at the moment but @MadMax or @concertman1971 might be able to help answer that one.

IMO the frame is a tiny bit narrower. Where this frame excels is in the vision window. I have been a staunch ASMAG guy for the past few years and own 3 different ones. It really took some getting used to though, as the window seemed smaller and it took a while for me to really understand the sightlines.

Fast forward to the Mirage. The first thing I noticed was the vision. While it may not look like the window is wider, once the mask is on it is apparent that @DerekGDS and @MadMax put thought into this. One of the other features is that a 6 stitch fits under it without touching the front crossbar. I prefer a 4 stitch behind the dish, but there is a certain "NO 4 STITCH HATS ALLOWED" assignor in So Cal.

are the earguards as narrow as they seem, or is the frame wide and the earguards just appear very narrow?

I’m going to blow your mind, @Rock Bottom and @concertman1971…

I finally got all 3 of my magnesiums in the same room at one time:

So that’s a (nee Champro, now Champion or Tucci) Rampage, the GerryDavis Mirage12, and an All-Star FM4K Mag.

  • The FM4K Mag is 16.2 oz.
  • The Rampage is 15.4 oz.
  • The Mirage12 is… 11.7 oz. :wow2:

Here’s the Rampage and Mirage placed back to back… the Mirage is actually wider, earguard to earguard, by at most 1/4”.

Three big selling points, other than the magnesium composition, which affords the “no bend”, “no break”, “very lightweight!” benefits:

  1. To Tim’s point – the sightlines, or “vision window” is a lot freer, and less confining. This is because the bar breadth has been minimized by @DerekGDS as safely as possible (tested to and thru 140mph, IIRC).
  2. The Mirage looks the part. As we know all too well, style & appearance matters. Why, who, or how much it matters is an exhausting discussion, but it does. I say this, hand on heart, the FM4K performs the best at Protection Method #1, which is geometric. It just looks quite radical, and for some, that becomes off-putting. The Mirage has that iconic style pedigree, in spades. ♠️
  3. It has umpires in mind, almost wholly. Who do you think is going to benefit the most from this? ↓ ↓ ↓

A properly lengthened XCG, with a rake of no more than 2-3°.

Bonus Trivia Point! – Why “Mirage12”? There are three wonderful coincidences at play. One is etymological – words, and their meanings. The second is atomic. The third is “whose name is on the door?”.

Anyone got guesses?

That's a slick looking mask. Somewhat regretting picking up the Diamond BigLeague little bit ago. How big and thick are the pads going to be on the Mirage12? As I mentioned in my other post that you commented on, I am not a fan of the stock BigLeague pads

Limited quantities expected to be available in early-mid April with additional units expected in late April-mid May. It will be frame only.

There is no presale planned but if there is interest in purchasing one... anyone can email me derek@ and when that product is a few days away from public release I'll send over a pre-order link.

Derek@ the Gerry Davis address? Will the All-Star FM4000 magnesium pads fit? Are you going to have Mirage specific pads coming soon?

Yes that is correct. Sorry just didn’t want to make it even easier for bots to crawl and spam me.

I do believe so @concertman1971 was using those with the frame. Most pads besides the Belgards should fit.

Yes - the overall concept is completed but still working through testing the internals.

Please, please, please don't go the route of a certain equipment company (rhymes with Leevopeeled) and refuse to sell replacement pads.

We can achieve that low bar and go a few higher with some modularity in the design...

In the middle of typing a message to Derek inquiring as to what the hell leevopeeled is I figured it out. You can't put anything past, oh shi, shiny object, is that a squirrel?

I hate every one of you.  😉   I eventually got back down to “only” 4 masks.  Sold 3 this Spring. I am feeling the “need” to add one soon. Please cease and desist.

Okay. I’m boyinr and I have a problem.

I don't know that person is but, that is a sub-optimal take.

For all the ones that had a hand in designing and making this one happen…

THANK YOU!!!!

no stones left unturned!!!

@DerekGDS

@MadMax

@concertman1971

….sorry if I left anyone out!

DITTO THAT!!!

I've worked 2 plates since receiving my Mirage12, and I am blown away!!  Moving (most recently) from the FM4K MAG (and previous to that a DynAlum.)

This is the first mask that I've felt confident in not using a DTG due to the beautifully designed XCG.  Just the slightest tuck of the chin and my mask taps my chest - providing assurance that I am, in fact, protected.  Not having a floppy DTG makes handling/carrying/stowing the mask so much easier and eliminates a few more ounces from an already ultralight package.

The biggest WOW factor is the field of vision!!  I didn't realize how accustomed I had become to the view from behind my FM4K MAG.  I can see better in every direction, hands down.

Thanks to the efforts put into this design, thanks for the open communication on this forum!  Fantastic work to all who had a hand in this!
