  1. FWIW: worked a couple games this past weekend with a colleague (with JuCo experience) who bought the Enduro after seeing mine (moved to the Enduro from the Wilson Platinum). He took a hard foul directly off the CP and was impressed with how little he felt.
  2. These two takes mirror my own experience and why I now call time if I take out my brush (with runners on). I had the exact situation happen to me as TMIB's partner. That was the first--and last--time that's happened to me, and thankfully the defense didn't squawk (at least as far as I heard). This. DTHC, please don't ask for time to go talk to your pitcher after a HBP.
  3. I hope (pray?) it's a video from an April Fool's joke. No mention of the system on the Musco website, nor on their YT channel. No mention of it (on any reputable sites, anyway) via any links, either.
  4. As a vet I agree with both of these takes. Any retired commissioned officer would know better than to treat anyone with disdain.
  5. Funny conversation with my son (senior on varsity) and Mrs. Beaker was had a month or so ago. My son was complaining about a strike called on one of his teammates during the regional tournament. "It was at his letters," exclaimed Son. Me being me, I pulled out Ye Olde NFHS Rule Book and read for the edification of Son and The Missus the definition of a strike. Needless to say the conversation ended pretty quickly thereafter.
  6. Son was a catcher. Can confirm.
  7. I'll let Max and others pipe in when they're available, but I know several folks on here have had success basically making their own (knowing a seamstress or knowing how to sew is key, of course). Can be done for a fraction of the cost of a pre-made from what I understand.
  8. I'm sure @MadMax has thoughts.
  9. How cool would that skully look with the limited edition Enduro CP? https://media3.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExNWthZGN0bDA3aW84MnY1a2t5cWhqdTNjY3MzaHVucTJydXozNjc4cyZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/xUOwGeP1jGGUKIGoko/giphy.gif
  10. The BR rules for bats isn't exactly OBR--but are available online with a rudimentary web search. But nowhere do they state EJ is required.
  11. Thanks, Mike--your crew called a great tournament!
  12. Maybe @DerekGDS could give you an idea of how long the backorder wait will be. There's also a guy--several of us have used him--that will powdercoat your mask whatever color you want (I had one in carolina blue for a couple of years).
  13. So how, for an example, would this work with the AS Skully? Would the D3O replace or supplement the existing foam padding in the Skully? If supplementing, would the D3O go between the shell and the padding or between the padding at the wearer's head? If replacing, how would the fitting be changed? Color me a bright shade of intrigued.
  14. I have an XL AS Skully, the GD Mirage, and a UL harness--have have 0 issues removing the mask, or keeping it on. Works together perfectly.
  15. My only thought was from my own experience with LL. Lighter mask makes all the difference (I started with a F3 Defender mask) and dropping the skully was to try to reduce overall cost.
  16. Personally, since you're starting with LL/CR games, I'd drop the skull cap and instead spend a bit more and get the Davis Mirage mask (don't forget the pads and pad socks!). Don't forget plate shoes--and I think you'll find a near 50/50 split between Mizuno and NB shoes. Seems to me that most people find the 3N2 plate shoes either heavy or having unsatisfactory protection. Regardless of what you end up getting, welcome to the club!
  17. Situation: R1/R2. Less than 2 outs. Two man mechanics. Not shown in video, B/R returns to 1B and after B/R on 1B, F3 tags the B/R. Initial call by BU is safe, F3's foot was off the bag and the appeal wasn't clear. Thoughts? IMG_5592.mov
  18. Today I learned that some masochist/sadist put together a 10U travel ball league that included balks.
  19. In my entire NFHS season this year--and even going back to last year--I need 0 hands to count the number of times a batter has been hit by the ball on whatever protrudes from his back pocket. I actually had 2 HBP this year where the ball hit the batter's dangling sleeve. Point being, I think we're making more out of this than is warranted.
  20. Hey everyone! I found @MadMax's sock account!
  21. You can imagine what happened. Foul ball right into the face mask. He took a stumbling step back, maybe two, then fell flat on his back, arms in the air to his sides in the classic concussion pose. The good news is he walked off the field under his own power.
  22. Thanks. BTW, the case play writers apparently have no idea of how long sliding gloves are.
  23. 💯 Likely done for the year for concussion protocol.
  24. Why not? There have been instances where my son at the last moment was called to pinch hit/sub in for another player and literally had no time to put his gloves on. Grab his bat, grab his helmet and go--no time (or mental wherewithal due to largely artificial time constraints) to get his gloves out of his pocket or his oven mitt out of his bag. His coach would have lit into him for taking too much time had he done so. Perhaps more likely is a pitched ball hitting a protruding sliding mitt--but the same holds true: HBP. I want to say there's an NFHS case play for it (don't have my book with me at the moment to verify).
