I chat up F2's here and there - nothing over the top, but I like to get a dialogue going.  I have to think doing your first World Series plate has got to get you excited - I think he was releasing some of that nervous energy.  Also, as an umpire, would there be anything more fun than a World Series plate?

I talk with catchers a lot, find out where good restaurants are or what good movies they like. Cuts through a lot of crap and gets to the human element. Was making a business deal with a catcher once and a batter asked us to wait until he wasn't there. I punched him out on strike three next pitch.

F*#K batters. We are working. They are playing. Gotta keep things light if you can when working. I rarely call a questionable/border pitch a strike three on a catcher. If the other catcher asks where the pitch was I tell him where I had it, that it was a questionable pitch and that I give the benefit of the doubt to the catchers. I don't screw the catcher if he's working hard and working with me.

After all, it's bad to have sex with people you work with. Makes things awkward around the office so to speak. Hahaha
