I've seen some discussion of the Estabrook type combo on the forum and want to test out some thinking on it. My motivation, of course, is to find as good protection as possible realizing that concussions will always be a risk. It appears from the forums that he is using a Rawlings Coolflo Matte Style Alpha Sized Base Coach Helmet (https://www.amazon.com/Rawlings-Coolflo-Matte-Style-Helmet/dp/B010R05ONA). I am seeking opinions on combining this with one of the Unequal inserts -- either the Solo (https://unequal.com/solo/) or Uncap HDR (https://unequal.com/uncap-hdr/) to add to the protection. Based on what I've read in the forums, I am also considering modifying my current mask to add a DeltaFlex facemask harness (https://www.all-starsports.com/fmhpro.html) to make it easier to one-hand my mask onto the helmet. Has anyone done this or something similar? I am concerned less with how this looks as how it will work. One forum mentioned that the bill of this helmet might push the mask out too far. Comments (and please no "if you are afraid to get hit maybe you should find something else to do with your time")

Took what felt like a minor mask shot last night in a Cal Ripken 10U game, foul to the left center forehead. No big deal (thanks Team Wendy I think) but felt a bit of a jolt through my neck. Mask was extremely loose but did not spin off, guess it was just one of those shots. Still have a mild to moderate headache today and not much appetite. Guess I will see if someone can cover my games tomorrow, thankfully I am off today. If not gone by morning I will make a doctor's appointment to get checked out. Want to make sure this isn't sinus headache as our latest blast of heat seems to have released the last of the pollen in NC. Had 2 games last night (both 10U) and before this mask shot I took an uncaught pitch off the small knuckle of my left hand (that one hurt and knocked the indicator out of my hand), another pitch off the shoulder, and 2 fouls to the stomach (on top of where I got hit Tuesday night in a varsity game) in game 1. After the mask shot in game 2 I got an uncaught pitch direct to my right forearm right on the tendons by the elbow which swelled up nicely and hurt every time I moved my fingers to give a count (which I lost 2-3 times after the mask hit, not because of the mask hit directly but the mess the game turned into - we were battling darkness as well as time limit and my focus was off just that little bit). I was a ball magnet last night, aided by F2's looking for a clue and F1's in search of something resembling a strike zone.
