Is there a protocol for what color ball bag you wear based on what color shirt or pants you wear or anything of that nature?  I overheard some guys talking last night about the topic but didn't hear the outcome, so wanted to check to see if there were any standards out there.   Apologies if this topic has been discussed, I did not see it in the archives.

I wear navy with navy shirts and the light blue with red white and blue stripes.

I wear black with black, pro black (light blue with black trim) and cream.

Hats go along the same vein.

I was always told that the ball bags should match the color of the hat you are wearing.  Blue hat=blue bags.  Black hat=black bags.  Grey bags are not worn.

Black, MLB Polo Blue (new or w/ black collar), Cream, Gray, or anything with a black collar or black trim - Black Ball Bags & Black Hat

Navy, old school lt. blue (softball lt. blue), or anything with a navy collar or navy trim - Navy Ball Bags & Navy Hat

Red - consult your local bowling league about Ball Bag color...a hat is optional...again consult your bowling league.

I generally wear black with pretty much everything. Navy's a good bet as well.

I tried out grey ball bags, and they're alright, but I don't really see the point as they blend into my pants.

I've decided to simplify. I'm with Rolo. Black is sexy.

Although a HS umpiring partner of mine rocks gray ballbsgs and they look good if they match the pants. That's the hard part.

Black! Always Black!!! They match your belt and shoes!

I only use grey dry lo's, your ball bags have to match the color of your pants.

I don't care who you are. Now that's funny right there. (Apologies for stealing from Larry the Cable Guy)

Grey is not even allowed around these parts!<br />

Amen brother! I strongly dislike the grey ball bag look, it looks very smitty.

Sounds like you follow the TASO uniform code pretty well

If UmpJm is still wearing them they are not smitty. Otherwise no grey.

Anyone admit to wearing or ever seen anyone wearing the pink ball bags Honig's sells? I'm sure Official's Choice probably offers them as well.

I like the pink shirts but the pink ball bags, yew! Too much.

I wear black because they go with anything.

If you wear gray, they need to match the pants. Do they make gray ball bags in heather and charcoal?

The navy bags look OK when they are new, but 1 season they are faded and look awful.

I don't care what colors people wear, they should look good (clean, not-faded) and blend with the uniform. They are cheap enough, but new ones each season.

I don't understand the black ball bag w/ anything navy trimmed, I just don't.  Navy looks better, period.  Navy ball bag, navy hat.

For me;

Anything trimmed in black gets black hats and ball bags, ....anything trimmed in navy, navy.

I'm not a fan of navy ball bags.  Someone previously in the thread said, "Black, because it matches your belt and shoes."  I guess maybe that's why I don't like navy.  I do have a set of navy that I used to wear when we wore navy shirts.  Our general rule is the plate umpire picks the shirt/jacket color.  So, I choose black shirt/jacket, light blue w/ black collar, or in the summer cream w/ black collar so I can wear black ball bags.  Occasionally during the high school season I will have a partner who only has a navy jacket.  That was our official color until two seasons ago when we added black as well.  Some have not purchased black jackets yet so I don't really have a choice but to wear navy.  For those games I use gray ball bags.  When I order my pants I order the ball bag that matches those pants.  So I have Gerry Davis gray to match those pants, Smitty gray to match those pants, and Ump-Attire gray to match those pants.  I'm good with gray bags as long as they match the pants.  I am not impressed with those that wear the heather gray bags they've had for 15 years (that are now kind of pinkish) with their charcoal pants.

For some reason "Navy Ball Bags" sounds a whole lot better than "Blue Ball Bags"

Carry on.  To make my post relevant, I will vary my cap and ball bag color between black and navy (both the same) depending what color shirts are being worn.

Easy solution. Don't wear any shirts with navy trim.
