Can You Eject For This?

I'm not referring to the coach, I'm referring to the fact that parents have their 5 and 6 year olds playing an organized sport!!!!!

I started my son at 6. He had fun. He learned some skills.

Why do you think organized sports are bad for 6-year-olds?

Too young .......

 

I don't mind if it is a once a week thing for the kids to "play" some tee ball (mostly get rid of their energy) and start teaching them the basics of the game, but there is no need to have umpires there... Really there is no need to even have parents there... Or to call it a game.

It was 5-6 yo CP.He tried out, same as the 6 year olds. Coach saw what he liked and drafted him. He learned to hit the ball to all fields, played "Circle" because he could catch fly balls and throw. He made all stars at 4 playing with mostly 6 year olds. Most kids, I agree it's too young. He loved it and all he wanted to do was play. Some kids just have "it" young.

Seriously now. Welcome to the board. I might not be an ejectable offence, but that doesn't mean it should be allowed to continue either. IMHO, by him not shutting the coach down he believes its okay to bad mouth other umps. A simple " Mike, were not discussing other umps" usually puts a stop to it. If not, just walk away. He's not gonna follow you ( unless he's really dumb).

Second, don't listen to what coaches, players, or fans have to say. Always remember that if you believe them when they tell you you're great, you gotta believe them when they say you suck.

Something you will have to continuous face being a younger guy is them trying to intimidating you. What you have to realize is once you walk on that field, its YOUR field. YOU'RE in charge, not the

jack wagon of a coach.

I was with you right up to saying it is your field. I have never liked that phrase. We administer games not run fields. It is semantics but to me a big difference. Sometimes in administrating a game we have to ask participants to leave early. I completely agree that simply telling him that previous umpires will not be discussed. As a teenager  administrating a game is tougher, I know, I started as a teenager.

As a teenager  administrating a game is tougher, I know, I started as a teenager. 

 

Didn't know they had baseball that far back! Was the ball round back then?

Actually both my sons played in a 5/6 pitching machine league. It was nicely organized, not competitive but organized.

I like working the younger leagues around here, but nowadays the only time my chief asks me to work any is a "big game", or when they've had a major problem. He called me last year to work a 7U coach pitch league. I found out why when I got there... Our Asst. UIC was the coach of his son's team, and the week before, he got tossed by one of his own umpires. The umpire that ran him was a new kid, and one of my trainees.

 

Yep. That was fun game. A-UIC almost got ran again, but when I gave him a chance to get quiet, he did

I said exactly that when I heard he would be coaching. Apparently, he can't assign any of the games for the league, and for his games, there's always a Program Director and/or the Chief nearby. I know they've had a little talk with him and hopefully he'll mellow out a little. The other coaches still don't like it though and I can't blame 'em. We'll see how it goes this Spring/Summer, but something tells me I may be doing some 8U this year.

I suppose it depends on how the league is set up.  I was the UIC of our local LL the last two years and was also an assistant coach on my son's teams both years.  However, I had no say on who umpired any game.  If they passed their background check and volunteered to umpire, then they got a login to the online umpire scheduler and every game was self-assign.  I was able to separate the two roles quite easily and there was never an issue.
