From OBR 2013, A pitcher is to step directly toward a base before throwing to that base and is required to throw (except to second base) because he steps. It is a balk if, with runners on first and third, for the pitcher to step toward third and does not throw, merely to bluff the runner back to third; then seeing the runner on first start for second, turn and step toward and throw to first base. It is legal for a pitcher to feint a throw to second base.

There are 15 new changes for 2013. They even deleted the last line of rule 2.00 interference, stating that any time interference is called the ball becomes dead, something I have never seen done. If the rule book just didnt add on for the last 30 years, but would have re-worded or deleted a few things it would be a lot easier to follow...just my opinion.

Jeff Nelson is THE MAN! Such a down to earth cool guy.

Exactly what I was thinking. why do you have a mlb hat? you work in the big leagues??
-
If you work REAL baseball you ALWAYS echo "time" and "balk" calls. No ifs and or buts about it....

This was a system developed by Dan Weikle DII national coordinator. He also uses this system for colorado hs umpire. It works quite well IMHO.
-
That would be dumb. Im pretty sure they rank you 1-42 and start at the TOP and work down.

Cody I and many others here would love to hear some detail of your experience? I'll send you a PM.
-
It really isnt an issue to me. Like I said I had a great experience at Harrys this year, plus I reached my personal goal so I really dont care it just seems odd.
-
BTW I'm NOT saying this out of bitterness, I have no reason to be bitter about by pro school experience! :)
-
Doesn't seem fair that out of 36 students at PBUC they are sending 14, when we sent 14 from harry's and had over 120 people. They were some really good umpires left out, hard to imagine they are saying that at vero.

What size? Condition?

Today our class was introduced to a new mechanic for taking pick off plays for 2012. PBUC and the minor leagues expect all pick off plays from the pitcher to first base to be taken from the B and C position in this fashion. Start hands on knees set shoulders squared to plate with eyes and head on pitcher. as the pitcher starts his move step to the mid point between the 45ft line and first base with your RIGHT foot. see the ball out of his hand. drop step with the left foot squaring your shoulders towards first base and take the play standing set in a "modified scissors stance" with arms to your side. make your call as your left foot comes up to square with your right. I had a hard time with this in drills today as i am used taking a step towards the mid point between the 45ft and first base with my left foot then squaring to the base. Luckily the beach is a great place to draw your own diamond and get in some extra practice.

Does any one know when and where the PBUC eval course is and how long it will run for? I have been asked to work russ matt(florida) in early march but Im pretty sure they're about the same time.

Thanks Mike, we will definatley do that.

Are you going for a job? I hope that I get a roommate with a desire to go pro. My overall goal is to be in the top five of my class. I know thats a tough goal but you have to aim high right?
-
I am enrolled in Harrys, thanks to Warren and Hunter for helping find the right school for me.
-
Ok so here is some of my background and goals. I am going to school with full intentions of getting a job. I have been well trained mechanic wise and have recieved top student at both clinics I attended this summer. I believe this is one of my strongest points, and feel more comfortable working live situations. BUT with that being said, theres been twice this year that I found myself not knowing how to apply a rule to a certain situation. Of course I looked up the rule after the game, but it makes me aware that I need some help in this dept. So i guess what am I asking is should I go to a school that highlights my attributes or a school where I can learn the rules?
-
GEE! Thanks I couldnt see figure that out.....I meant how much for a buy it now price.

So I am absolutely dedicated to attend pro school this year. I have been lucky enough to have been trained well and would love to travel the country and work ball. The only problem is I'm stressing out about my options. The association I belong to has a good working relationship with Evans, and I have actually met him twice. On the other hand I have heard really good things about Harry's from former students and this board and also its just my luck PBUC opens there own school making the choice even more difficult. Any thoughts Gentlemen?

I know we already talked about this but Im just confirming that I will be at the Evans Desert Classic along with some other members of my association.

Throat guards are dumb! Wear you chest right and lock your neck (no neck) and you'll NEVER get a throat shot.
