Why isnt there a digital Umpires Indicator out there somewhere? :question1:

You would think that with today's technology there would be something out there for us geek umpires.

Yes I know that there are apps for phones that mimic an indicator but we know that not happening!

A small digital indicator that fits in your hand that may also have a game clock and keep score should not be unrealistic.

Thoughts?

They have made indicators that have a stop watch in them. Have not seen one with digital BSOI displays though.

Why does it have to be an advantage? Some of us are just geeks.

I have tried to find an indicator with a stop watch but have not come across one... does anyone know where to get one?

I'm with you, I'd buy one.

Personally, the base umpire is responsible for timing issues. And, personally, the base umpire doesn't need an indicator. What I'd like to see is a stopwatch that vibrates, so the BU doesn't have to look down or have it make a noise.

Hmmm.... Here is the one review from that Amazon site, and I quote: "I, and the base umpire and referee cloudy weather (in the tent), not too bright and are used under the circumstances. Since the brightness of the number is low, difficult to see in bright places. More green is better ball count. If you (especially brightness) improvement, such as gauge very easy to use and I think it will be."

Well, that was the Google translation, anyway.

come on, Dr. Ump! You should print the original and take it to one of your Grad students for extra credit!

Not a bad idea.

Actually, what I really should do is have one of them design a better one! (This may require collaboration with a certain engineering umpire.)

Im confused because arent all indicators digital? I mean they have the numbers on them not just some arrow pointing in a general direction.

Honigs used to sell one with a stopwatch built in. The ball/strike/out indicators were all standard. I bought a couple, but they didn't really last.

I wouldn't switch from my notched indicator. I hardly have to look at my indicator to know the count anymore. If the digital one had a little receiver/display in my mask that showed the count, then you may have something.

I'd say for roughly the same reason there aren't chest protectors with digital computers.
