Coach being a tool

I had a college summer wooden bat league tonight I had the bases. My partner is a very senior guy and former DI umpire and one of our top evaluators. R3. Pitcher feints to third. Offensive coach has a conniption about not calling a balk and starts to come to me. I was ready and actually had some morbid curiosity about wanting to find out what he was thinking. So I start walking over towards him. Then my partner yells out, "Coach if you want to come out you're gonna have to talk to me."

I was a bit disappointed not only because I wanted to find out what he was thinking, but because none of the more senior evaluators have seen me handle a coach confrontation and I have been told that some top people in my association are concerned about how I would handle a pressure situation, because I'm such a calm mild mannered guy.

I told my partner this after the game. He apologized, but he and this coach have a history and like riding each other's asses.

I was just amazed that a coach would be that out of touch with the rules. And he didn't just fall off the turnip truck.

Some time later in the game between innings a fan threw me a foul ball which had been retrieved and the other head coach brought my partner a drink and a couple more baseballs. My partner says to the coach, "Aren't you going to tell your buddy over there that pitchers can feint to 3rd?"

The coach replies, "F__k him he's a complete tool. I was honestly hoping one of you would toss his sorry ass. That would have my day."

I could only laugh.

I had a one of the top hs coaches in LA come out on me with a lefty on the mound jumpturn to third and not throw. Wanted the same balk for not throwing to first. Told him he was nuts.

After the game he comes up to me and appologizes.

funny part of this is that the fake to third from the rubber is NOW a balk, this will make this toolbag happy :S

Most collegiate wood bat leagues are played under modified OBR, the modifications being that the runner cannot crash the catcher and the ncaa force play slide rule.

I don't know if that is true. The JuCo league out here is a wood bat league that goes NCAA rules. You sure you aren't confusing NCAA with NAIA?

I should clarify: NWL, CPL, and I'm pretty sure the cape cod league all play OBR, and the metro collegiate league is the same in the St Louis area also plays OBR. Each league has it's nuances but the common theme is that they modify the rules to include that crashing the catcher and the ncaa force play slide rule are in effect. Those are the only leagues I am privy to the rules of...
