Anyone have any intel?? Here's the photo from the website. Quote

The great big yellow "W" stands for Walrus. 3 Quote

"Goo goo, ga-jube.." does that make the platinum wearers The Eggmen? I can vouch for the Cobalt as well. Though I do not use the extention. So it is not a problem. 2 Quote

I stopped using the extention last year, the sides were rolling outwards and it looked weird, yes I'm a bit vain, but I can admit it Though I will say the week I started using the cobalt (w/ the extention) I took 3 gut shots with no issues Quote

SJA Posted February 9, 2024 Report Posted February 9, 2024 Team Wendy one of the last before they stopped making them. Quote

SJA, I'm not directing these questions at you, merely using your CP as the talking point for the group... See, Team Wendy was hamstrung and restricted with what they could do. They had to replicate the layout of the existing foam vest supplied by Wilson, or Douglas, or Riddell, or whichever CP was sent in. And, I'm going to tell you, the Wilson units have several major design flaws. The most egregious one is the joining seam between the shoulder pauldron and the vest. Instead of running a connecting spline between the shoulder arch plate, to/thru/under the ailette (gap protecting flap), and to the pauldron plate, they floated the pauldron plate atop the pauldron pad, and joined them with that seam. Well, not only does that seam not position the shoulder pauldrons in ideal spots for every wearer, but that seam wears out, rips, and you're left without a shoulder pauldron until it can be repaired. And, because the foam thickness is way too much and the same as the foam vest, you get this hulking, bulky "linebacker" look. The same can be said about the pectoral wings. Granted, the most recent versions of the Gold make those removable, but really... we had to wait 20 years for that??!! With the carapace almost entirely dependent upon the foam vest to anchor to, and the foam vest being one thick slab of couch upholstery foam, one really cannot customize the fit of the CP all that easily. Then, too, Wilson had them produced in China, and then crammed in quantities into containers for overseas shipment, which resulted in them flattening out when arriving stateside. And, since most amateur umpires didn't know how a CP was intended to truly fit, the CP was pressed into service and worn much like a shop apron. TW didn't have the latitude to engineer a solution. They could merely recreate what was there, and make it slightly better. Quote
SJA Posted February 14, 2024 Report Posted February 14, 2024 No worries Max 🙂 It's served me well so far and is the last CP I'll probably own . . . getting' old is a . . . 😞 Quote

It looks really nice, and cohesive, and that you (and your team) put a lot of effort in... but I have to frankly say, it's a missed opportunity. I count... 4 spots / issues that, if attended to differently than just replicating what it was, would make that CP an absolute dragonslayer. Quote
wolfe_man Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 And TW was not built or popular because of how it appeared! How does this new pad jacket perform when you get hit? That’s what made TW so great - it’s performance, not it’s appearance! Please stop saying “it’s like Team Wendy” without proven facts to support that statement. Otherwise, I’m going to start saying that I’m just like Tom Brady - because we’re both white men. But he’s worth millions and I’m, well, me… And as a business model, you don’t want to be as good as someone else - you want to do it better than them! TW could be heavy and hot, is yours cooling and lightweight? Then, that’s better. TW could be oversized, is your pad jacket way larger than the plates or is it cut nicely? Then you might be better here, so sell it. In short, forget about TW, they’re not your competition or even in the business anymore - so tell us why we should buy yours over everyone else’s. Market your product on its own merits. Good luck! 3 Quote

If you don’t mind sharing, what do you think would make it better. @wolfe_man Okay. So here are some benefits of our CP, our current design is super lightweight coming In just around 1 pound. Are mesh on the back allows for breathability. Our foam as we are using and working with some protective foam companies to find some of the best foam out there that is protective but also breathable. Our pad jacket is custom cut to your liking, smaller, bigger, wider, etc.. Quote
Umpiresrock74 Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 We also are working with a company who has been shown to be better in protection than Team Wendy. Quote
Thunderheads Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 Hey everyone - I've discussed this with you before, yet it wasn't very successful. This forum here is not about DISCUSSING all things chest protectors. CP Porn was set up for photos of your rigs, and maybe a quick description of what you have (just like the 'mask porn' thread). Conversations about chest protectors that live within this thread will be harder to find than if you start a conversation about a specific CP topic on the equipment forum. Please, let's try to keep this in mind. 2 4 Quote
