The DFH I added to my chest protector was the best thing I've done in regard to my equipment. The harness on my dyna-lite mask let go today (I noticed during the game that some stitching was loose and darned if it didn't give way when I took it off after ringing up the last out of the game). I was wondering if I can replace it with one of these http://www.ebasesloaded.com/all-star-pro-delta-flex-face-mask-harness-fmh-pro.html?Attribute=BLACK&gclid=CI2noZLa2swCFQZZhgod1hUDbw

Can I use one of these with the dyna-lite and if so does anybody have any experiences they're willing to share?

Bottom line is I need a new mask harness, I used the search function but didn't find much, so I'm just wondering if there's a mask harness out there that compares to the upgrade when switching a CP to the DFH.

Gracias.

I tried a harness like the ones in your link, and didn't like them. I think they are designed more to wear with a helmet (my opinion only). I wear a standard harness, either Rawlings or Wilson.

I would think that all harnesses will go on any mask.

Those don't look right on an umpire.  It will be bringing attention to yourself that you don't need.

I just purchased a replacement harness from Honigs, and in my opinion it is the best one around. The logo is all black so you get the all black" look. The sides of the harness have the "belt loop" to slide the excess strap through. The quality of the harness is every bit as good as Wilson, and for $6.95, half the cost of  a Wilson, it can't be beat.

Is that a sports bra for your head? :fuel:

Honestly, I think that while these look like they might work for umpires, they really don't. Umpire mask harnesses aren't elasticized all the way around, but just a little bit at the front. These can flex too much on their own and I think you'd have a problem being able to swing the mask off quickly and put it back on properly.

Just my two cents.

I have this harness and I don't use it. It seems nice and easy to adjust, but it's either going to fall off your head with every movement if it's too loose, or won't come off with a shot to the jaw. I like it, it's comfortable, but it's not practical and makes me nervous of a low shot.

Get the Wilson MLB Harness. Simple as that. It looks the part and works.

Not what I was implying at all. I was referencing All Star harnes vs the more traditional MLB style. F3 works too.

I have a lot of excess strap on my Wilson MLB harness (I have small head), and I've been stitching it to keep it neat and secure, but no matter how much slack I leave, the stitch keeps breaking, leaving one of the three strap 'tails' hanging. Anybody have any ideas? I  don't want to cut them, but I'm considering it.

I used gorilla glue on mine.

How much is Force3 paying you to be their shill? I think we get it, you like Force 3 stuff.

I'd just cut them off. I suppose you could tape them down.

I don't like it, I love it. There's a difference. All the umpires should love this and the others umpires small businesses and move away from the big corporations.

They're not the only game in town and not the only company making great products. Your non-stop evangelism of them is not endearing IMO.

Black duct tape.

Have you tried nylon upholstery thread? I don't think that will break! It's probably what was used to sew the harness at the factory.

That All-Star DeltaFlex harness is for helmets... For catchers. All-Star is a catcher's outfitter first and foremost. As much as I'd like to see someone wrench the "Official MLBU Supplier" tag from Wilson, who's done nothing but sit on it under their fat corporate arse, All-Star isn't it (yet) and should remain best for catchers. All other harnesses are for hats, thus, for umpires.

The Honig's harness is outstanding. Strong elasticity where it needs it, low-profile strap loops, and the logo is monotone - the same color as the harness itself. I've got a navy one on my +POS rig, and have brought and sold them to fellow umpires at CDP in the past. I'll be putting a black one on my beloved Nike Steel rig very soon, as the Nike harness is starting to weaken.

Because I loan out my masks to fellow umpires who are suddenly stuck without (a good) one, I don't cut my straps either. I was noted at an umpire camp in how I do it in particular, as it leaves a clean look while keeping that adjustability. I carry electrical, duct and athletic tapes (yes, in colors such as navy, black, etc.), and find the electrical tape to work best for taking the excess strap, folding it back upon itself, and then wrapping tape around the "stub". While electrical tape is woefully weak at sticking to other materials, it's really good at sticking to itself. And, it doesn't leave the residue behind like duct tape does.

Lastly, I'm completely with @gnhbua93 on this topic... the big corporations are doing nothing for us. Real innovation, where our protection, safety and performance is valued on a more personal level, is only going to come from the small or solo sources. The Wilson West Vest Gold has not been updated in at least ten years (and likely will never be). Force3 is demonstrating that they actually hear (and process!) our feedback, as both the Defender (mask) and UnEqual (CP) have gotten significant revisions. Despite some sluggishness in order fulfillment, Dan and +POS are bringing some really good, innovative gear (back) to market! The brand-new Cobra CP looks like the progeny of a Douglas, albeit modernized. Reebok abandoned us by withdrawing from baseball (way to be, Adidas, you schmucks), leaving (at present) New Balance and 3N2 as the only real producers of plate shoes. I'm hopeful that a small outfit can step in (sorry, pun) and fill the void, but I'm even more hopeful that this sees some real creative thinking, like use of carbon fiber, or treating the tarsal guard as a separate, attachable object itself, able to attach to a shoe that can be any of a series of fits, widths or styles. Maybe this will come from Battle Sports (makers of the Nutty Buddy and the outside-the-shoe ankle brace) or EvoShield.

That day is coming that Wilson will lose that cushy exclusivity status it has with MLB... In my opinion, it can't come fast enough. I applaud GNH's fervor in advertising for Force3, because Wilson has already demonstrated – you don't have to make a superior product to get umpires to buy it. You just have to put your name (and the MLB logo) on it in so many places, you can't help but see it.

... annnnnd you force other companies' logos to be obscured or hidden.

I know I'm really late in the discussion, but, just like Mad Max stated, the link for the harness you were considering is specifically for catchers.  I swear by this harness: nice level of elasticity to it, however, personal preference for all of us, of course.

I make my own mask harnesses and they are all elastic except for the webbing. No issues putting on or taking off the mask.
