Hey @bluetick48, what's your best entry in the search field on EBay for the MAG4000? I know they don't come up often but, I am in the market and I don't want to miss a listing...

The trick is to check back often. As normally you see them and then they're gone forever.  All of the good umpire gear guys know to 'buy it when you see it', because if you think about it, it'll be gone.

We here at U-E made “snagging” – searching for, locating, discovering, and purchasing top-shelf masks (and other gear) on the cheap – much, much more difficult.

Have you also combed thru OfferUp and Craigslist?

Curious on the powder coat dunno if this was asked or relayed

How does it feel weight wise compared to when it left you.  Did it gain weight or lose weight?

do you mean before vs. after powder-coating?

Powder-coating does not change the weight at all - unless you were removing a vinyl coating from the mask, then it is much lighter after a powder-coating.   It's a very thin layer of material applied to your mask bars so they don't rust... think like food coloring - changes color, not weight.

I may send 5 new Adidas masks to Tony... I will probably keep a couple and sell the others at pretty much what I'll have in them (initial cost + PC and SH fees).

What colors should I do?

I know I would like a black matte and a gun metal, but what colors should I do for other three?

Some ideas:

  • Navy matte for HS?
  • Flag dip?
  • Metallic silver?
  • Charcoal?
  • Carbon fiber dip?

Navy matte for HS
Flag dip
Flat gray (Tony's done that for me before, it's fantastic)  Like a battleship gray w/ a protective clear coat over top.

LMAO!  Either that or a CAMO DIP! :D

Does anyone know what he is charging for the hydro dip? And how durable is the dip job to fouls, etc., as compared to a powder-coat?

As of 9/3/2020 at 2:42pm... updated pricing from Tony.

Standard Mask Powder-Coat:  $40

Standard Mask Hydro-Dip: $65

F3 Mask Powder-Coat:  $60

F3 Mask Hyrdo-Dip:  $85

Throat Guard Powder-Coat:  $15

Throat Guard Hydro-Dip:  $25

Shipping costs vary based on location and number of items.

I'm told that they use this same dip process on wheels.   If you think of all that a wheel endures while going down the road at X miles per hour... if the dip can endure that, then I'm pretty sure it should hold up well to a baseball impact.

This comment seems to have been glossed right over. But I'm not sure truer words have been spoken on the equipment forum.

I’ll have to say (not to go off rails of the powder coating topic) but I got the AS Cobalt SC and it’s pretty sexy paired with my powder coated Gunmetal 4000MAG

@bluetick48 .... 2 questions:

1) Do I see Ray's harness on that FM4000MAG?

2) Can you maneuver that mask (taking it off and on) just as if you were only wearing a standard cap?

Fill us in with a full review please!

On the wiki page I see no verbiage that states its actually lighter than vinyl or other coatings. They just seem to list the better properties of it in how it can be laid on thick or thin with no drips runs or other issues
