How many chances do you get?

BJ had plenty of chances to stay in ......but .............looks as though Holbrook almost looks like the agressor by "shooing" Upton away?

I never understand why we are supposed to allow an ejectable offense just because they are walking away.

I dont' know what was said, but Holbrook's "shoo" to Upton is what set him off .........

Generally you get the respect you give.

Could not hear the exchange BUT IMO the shooing gesture was disrespectful and pushed this player over the edge.

BJ was still in motion walking away and saw this gesture.

Both persons involved have paid their dues to get to this level.

I know major league umpires are generally on the receiving end of abuse most of the time BUT I think Sam could have just let it go and turned away and this would not have happened.

I don't care, just because he was walking doesn't mean he wasn't talking. If he wants respect, he needs to show it. I have seen coaches get tossed,as they were walking away, but saying over the top things. I have shooed players and coaches before. Is it disrespectful, usually, but usually it is equal to what has already been thrown my way.

I very rarely eject, I absolutely show respect to all. However, if I do my job and then you want to piss on my shoe, not happening. Demanding respect while failing to show it is the same double standard as the 17 yr old that wants to be treated like an adult until something happens, then he is a kid. I umpire in a friendly, approachable and respectful way. I understand certain things are going to make participants mad, no problem, chirp some, no problem. Carry it further and it will go downhill quickly. 

I had a coach, late in the game, come up to me after I rung up his batter. His opening line was,"You are going to have F##king throw me because I am going to argue balls and strikes." I told him to consider it done. He then proceeds to berate me on my zone and how BS it was that I rung his batter up. Then he repeated his opening statement. I told him I already had. He said,"No, you have to toss me." I told he was and to get off the field. As I said it I made a hands in front of me, go away motion. Thought the man was going to stroke on me.

I don't care how Holbrook gestured. I don't know what else may have happened in this game. I don't know what Upton said or didn't say. That action alone of returning does it for me.

Certainly he isn't arguing the called third strike, because if he is, he is on a very short leash.
