That's because too many at our level baby them and don't correct them young. Ask Brice Harper, he was a hothead that seems to calmed way down.

What could Upton have been arguing? Did something happen earlier that we are not aware of?

Certainly he isn't arguing the called third strike, because if he is, he is on a very short leash.

I think that was a " I'm only hitting .160 this season, I suck right now so I'm gonna take it out on the umpire because that was definately a strike and I'm better off not playing at all". argument.

I think it is more the "That's why I'm hitting a buck 60 because of your (and the other guys) terrible calls" Do you know who I am. You are disrespecting me with that type of call and showing me up. If I don't swing it is not a strike, period". I am the great BJ Upton. They come to see me, not you.

And I disagree completely. The batter got beat by a good pitch, it happens. Shut up and go sit down. You can be upset, you can show frustration, you have no business yelling and gesturing at the PU for calling a strike, a strike. I contend you act like a child, you get treated like a child.

+1

I think the regular crew chief who is off, made a similar motion last year or the year before in a arguing situation, but sometimes my memory ain't to good.

And of course giving the, good bye hand flip to an umpire is perfectly ok from their standpoint at any time.
