From the Ump-Attire.com Facebook page:

Any difference between current Majestic shirt and the 2015 version?

Quite a bit. Instead of the pebble knit fabric, the shirts are more of the common flat back mesh with "bubble" mesh vented side panels and tail. Snaps at the collar will help keep the collar looking sharp. A placket has been added over the buttons to give a smoother appearance to the front of the shirt. From what I have seen trim on the sleeves and torso are gone from the black shirt but the navy still has the red and white trim around the collar and sleeve. Looks like no polo blue offering for 2015.

No blue polo!

I was in Atlanta at noon and they were sweating through the blue shirts! They're going to have guys going down left and right if they have to wear black during midday and afternoon games in Georgia, Arizona, Texas, SoCal, Florida!

No blue??

Dale Scott will NOT be happy

At the risk of overstepping my bounds and sounding like a salesman, Black and Navy are the only two color options I have seen for the general public.  Also, no more convertible jackets.  As to what MLB will be provided, I can't say, but the black shirt without the white trim above looks like the same shirt sitting on my desk.  Here's a completely unscientific picture of the shirt fabric to hopefully clear up my FB description.  For those of you who thrive on the technical information, I had someone hold it up in front of the window and took a picture with my iPhone 4.

The wider mesh, is the side panels and the panel in the tail.  The tighter mesh is the body of the shirt.  The fabric is stretched a little to emphasize the difference in the two mesh fabrics.

No more convertible jacket is interesting.  This spring I saw them being worn everywhere.  The college guys I work high school games with said they had gone almost exclusively to them.  All over tv for both NCAA and MLB.

Start saving because it may take a year or so but it will trickle down to the colleges and h.s. guys. I do like the convertible jacket. I do think it is here to stay.

Convertible jackets are really nice I don't go to a game with out mine.

@rjt6, they didn't send me a navy shirt but from the pictures the red and white trim are there and I would have to assume the material will be of the same sort as the black.

It looks like Smitty will now be carrying the "big league" style shirts that majestic is now discontinuing them. They are adding the polo blue in long sleeve as well!

I've watched a bunch of Spring Training games, and it looks like MLB hasn't adopted the new all black shirt or the navy.  They are wearing the exact same uniforms they've worn since 09.  Unless their waiting until the regular season to display the new stuff.

Why doesn't the MLB wear the light blue long sleeve?

Because, @rjt6, there shouldn't be an instance where it is needed.

Why would a long-sleeved be worn? For warmth, right? In MLB, only the PU would be wearing a long-sleeved shirt, so that places the BU's in jackets (either the convertibles or the shoulder-striped ThermaBase jackets). The PU has his choice of jacket, plate coat, or long-sleeved black shirt. The (unconfirmed) protocol is that Black is the primary, and the Sky Blue is only warm on warm / bright / hot days or evenings. "If you're wearing Sky blue, then it must be warm enough to do so."

I predict we'll see a light colored, long sleeved shirt in the future. Just for more skin protection from the sun. Most of us work waaaaay more day games than the average MLB/MiLB guys (and more plates). We need to do what's best for us, as opposed to your "heroes".

I have no idea why some frown on long sleeved jerseys on the bases. Just because you don't see MLB guys not do it is no reason us amateurs can't. It's okay to wear a short sleeved jacket (that looks like a dentist's smock) but not a long sleeved shirt? Please.

I got to see six Cactus league games this weekend (and yes, I was there to see Will Ferrell pitch), and the umpires were all wearing last years shirts. The rumor in the stands was that Will was going to umpire, but ran out of time.

I'm not against a long-sleeved umpire shirt on the bases, or anywhere, at any level, @kylejt. I was phrasing my response solely on @rjt6's question of "MLB" use (or in their case, non-use) of the long-sleeved shirt.

Majestic obviously doesn't make one, or I'm sure we'd see it. And since Majestic is the exclusive supplier for Major League Baseball...

That leaves the other manufacturers – Smitty, Honig's, et.al. – to produce these rather handy products.

Honigs already makes a light blue, long-sleeve version of their "MLB" style shirts in addition to the black version.

I use a LS black shirt on the pads. I have the Honigs Plate jacket w/open bottom as a jacket. I find that I sweat and freeze with it on. The lining just holds moisture and the wind cuts right thru it. I purchased the Cool-base jacket this year, it was really hard to find, just for that reason. I can layer up under for cold days and take sleeves off on warmer days. I still like the feel of cold gear under a LS shirt while on the bases...I
