Do you eject players for coming of the bench?

no, you eject them for coming OFF the bench ....

techinically , they could be EJ'd and the other players left their position too .....

What is the ruleset for this incident?  In FED, I would imagine yes.

Yep, PU should have been writing down jersey numbers as they poured out of the dugouts.  Based on that video, the game should have ended right there as the offense lost about 10 players LOL.

On a side note...anyone else notice how long it took the Plate Ump's partner to get in there...I'm not saying he has to sprint...But the dude is taking a Sunday Stroll in the park...

I'm surprised he didn't stop to get a piece of gum and tie his shoe first... :shakehead:  :stir  :jerkit:  :WTF  :banghead:

good rule of thumb:  don't grant the batter time once the pitcher has come set, unless P holds that set for a long time.

Good Rule of Thumb: Don't tackle anybody when you're anywhere besides a football field. :)

So even if ejecting all who came out of the dugout would effectively end the game, we still should (by the book, at least) enforce it? It seems to me that in a situation like that where every single player on the field was out of the dugout (if that happened to my team, I'd be out there too) it would be more in line with the spirit of the rule to just penalize those most at fault - the pitcher and whoever was shoving right after the MC happened.

You have to enforce the rule as written.  Happened in Virginia a couple of years ago after a play at the plate, benches cleared, both teams ejected, game ruled double forfeit.

happened in monmouth county NJ last season after MC after a botched squeeze….both teams ejected…all players suspended….teams had to use their jv squads for the next two games…and they had too many EJs so neither qualified for states

Excellent job by BOTH coaching staffs to clear the scene, especially the defensive coach, who as was pointed out earlier, got rid of the player that started it all.

I believe this was from an NCAA D3 game last year. I'd dump those participating and allow the rest to stay.

Yes, Berry College (GA) and Hendrix College (AR)

Looks like the PU issued some kind of warning for popping off about the late time call.

I think the only one I eject would be F1 (obviously) and maybe the first kid off the bench on the offense. Looks like everyone else just came out to mill around and stretch their legs or something.

Great job by the coaches to get between the players and get everyone back.

I've worked 8 HS games so far, everyone of them have had multiple instances where B was trying to F with F1's rhythm by asking for time. Time? No, we go is my usual response. One resulted in a failed delivery (no balk), most have been balls (and me looking for a reason to call a strike). The funniest one had F2 in front of me (a young man who umpires travel ball with us on the w/e). B, raised his hand, asked for time, No, we go, Kid replants his foot, swings and laces a double down the LF line. I say to F2, I guess you're the only one wishing that I granted B time.

Check out the "pitch"/throw that PU granted time on. F1 threw at B for asking for time. F1 is pissed because PU is granting time when he shouldn't. Baseball is one of the few games where the defense controls the pace of the action. When B is messing with this tradition (and PU is allowing it), bad things like this happen.

I was announcing/being the official scorer at a HS game, I had to cite a rule to the PU (who was my 7th grade Social Studies teacher back in middle (Jr. High) school back in the day) about granting time. He stopped the next game, actually told a F1 to throw when B was having a temper about not being granted time whenever he wanted.

I agree with this.  I wish more umpires managed the game in this fashion.  It takes some guts.

Dump the fielder for the blindside tackle on the runner attempting to score, and as long as it was settled quickly (of course there is going to be heat for a minute..the guy just got tackled coming into score by a fielder who didnt even have the ball, to say the least). Depending on the warning issued before it took place, and the head coach of the defensive team's mannerisms during the altercation you may have to dump the coach too. Let play resume. Drags out and both benches are throwing hands, then youre going to have team ejections, suspensions, etc.
