what do you like better?

Noticed there had been a thread about whether working plate or bases is harder in your opinion... but which one do you like better? 

 

To me, nothing beats being behind the plate for a well-pitched game, especially with pitchers who can throw gas. And when one team has great offense, it's pretty sweet just sitting back and watching them smash the ball. 

 

There are definitely perks of being on the bases too. There is a greater likelihood of having a "whacker" on the bases on a steal, close play at first, etc. Those are fun in their own way too. 

 

So what do you guys like?

I always have liked the plate more. I love working the bases but it just doesn't compare to the plate. Plus when you're on the dish if the game starts going south and becomes a blow out it's much easier to stay focused and the time passes a lot faster.

I prefer third base over everything else for a reason unknown to me, but plate is always fun and I'll jump right on it if someone has already staked out third.

Guys who work with me during the summer will call me a liar, but I'd prefer to work the plate.

It depends:

 

I want the dish if I have a trustworthy partner, or a timed game with a partner who doesn't control the game*. 

 

I want the pads if I have a less than trustworthy partner or inexperienced partner.

 

* biggest pet peeve is partners that take forever to start a half inning.

I like them both for different reasons, but .... you're more likely to be "surprised" on the bases ........

I want the plate......I like controlling the flow of the game......

 

.I'm lucky to do a good amount of my games with a certain circle of partners that I have the utmost of confidence in... we alternate plate/base game by game.....

 

I do have a number of game locations that due to the distance from my work, that I pretty much have to do the bases as I cant guarantee I can get there in time to dress and pregame. We do these games pretty much only with regular partners, so our pregames are pretty concise....

If I have my choice, I prefer to do the plate so I can control the pace of the game.  I agree with previous comments about not starting the game on time, too many warm up pitches between innings, too much socializing between innings etc.  There's nothing worse being "stuck" on the bases with a partner that takes 10 minutes between innings.

When I was younger, I preferred bases because I liked to be mobile around the diamond.

 

Now though, I like the plate to be able to control the pace.

Plate. I'm a control freak. Plus, when I'm on the bases, I tend to get distracted if its bad baseball. Being on the plate keeps me focused.

If it the level of ball with lots of ump hits - anywhere but the plate

 I find "plate-hog" distasteful, and inaccurate when it comes to me. I prefer "plate-hoarder".
