I think this is a perfect example of where you could easily use replay to reverse, but as the announcers state, ...where do you place the runners (something we've talked about here)?

Are they going to, or why don't the just call anything remotely close fair and then when there is a reversal, you would have no decision's to make. KISS theory.

And then everybody says that we need more replay because umpires default to the easier call to fix. That's the way it is in football and while there are times it's good, overall a bad idea. I don't even mind using replay for boundary calls but it will lead to more wrong calls, which will make us look bad. They need to make the calls as they see them and show everyone how good they actually are and how the fix is worse than the problem.

Obviously fair, how did he miss that?  Much easier to see fair/foul on a ball off the wall than one that far out on the ground.

 

That was an awfully long conference for a fair/foul call?  I can understand if they were going to change it fair, discuss where to put the runners, but if they were not changing the call why the long discussion?

While the initial call was missed I don't have any issue with living with the fact that it was called foul. 

 

Even if the PU is absolutely certain it was fair, like others have said what are you going to do with the runners? 1& 3???

1. I think the timing bug may have hit Guccione had he used better timing F9's actions would have given him additional information to help with his call.
   
    
2. I wonder what was happening in the initial conversation when you see Hallion run across the screed towards the 1st base dugout? He had to see or hear something to make him hustle in that direction.

In college we can change it and place the runners using a conservative approach.  Surprised they didn't do that.

I don't think I've ever seen a play like this overturned other than on a home run.  But I suppose anything can be overturned.  Must have left a mark on the dirt, because it looked pretty close.
