  1. These make my head hurt!
  2. Nice chunk of change but really nothing exorbinant when you figure in the scrutiny and time invested to get to that point. Congrats to those selected.
  3. Not sure if this was posted here. Thoughts? Get involved as an umpire when punches start being thrown or get out of there?
  4. Yeah, I can't imagine Randy Bruns would say only the runner should be out here.
  5. I would guess there will be something in there that an umpire can allow a catcher to go out even if they are out of conferences if their signs are crossed up.
  6. Was reading some comments on this play on the UEFL page and some are saying that the NCAA rule only mentions intentional interference with a fielder (not the ball) and so this play should only be one out. I guess my mind goes to the fact that if you intentionally don't allow the ball to get to the fielder, you are interfering with the fielder. Will be interesting if the NCAA puts out a memo on this one since it's likely to become a strategic play if the one out ruling is correct.
  7. A runner stopping and literally fielding a ground ball has to be considered intentional or deliberate interference, I can't see how it wouldn't be.
  8. You make good points and a good illustration why I think college is easier to call ball/strikes than HS. No need to expand the zone and it's much easier to be consistent with a more 'true' zone. Always bugs me when HS pitchers want that pitch that's on the outside part of the chalk called a strike (happens a lot) - in college, they know better. And, let's face it, we all probably give in and call that pitch at times because we're 2 hours in and it's still the 5th inning 😜
  9. What I've been told by some administrative figures in Legion baseball is that no electronic communication of any kind is allowed. Local rules could trump that I suppose.
  10. Very good point IMO. Players as talented as these ones are pretty good at making it look inadvertent and in the split second it happens when it's not even our primary focus...they're tough in real time. And you certainly don't want to call it unless you're 100% sure of it.
  11. I went back and watched the top of 1 looking for what the beef was with the LSU 3rd base coach. You could tell the pitcher was upset with something he did during the last at bat of the inning, but I couldn't tell what it was. I don't think it really played much of a role in the ejections, but was curious what was up there.
  12. 100%. This is a no brainer ejection - a coach coming 10 feet out of his dugout (after a warning to stop) to yell and make gestures about how many calls he thinks you've missed. The "how can you do that in a championship game" crowd should be directing that at the coach for being an idiot, not the umpire. I missed the first few innings - I'll have to go back and try find what they're talking about with the LSU base coach.
  13. Looks pretty clear that he moved his elbow down in an effort to get HBP.
  14. Like many have alluded to, I think if this came out in one of the NCAA's You Make the Call videos from an obscure early or mid season game, they would no doubt break it down that this should be called FPSR. Which of course is frustrating.

    RLI?????

I froze the video embedded in that article at 6 seconds and it looks like the runner touches first base before the ball gets to F3. Wouldn't that absolve him of the RLI?
  16. That must be what they want, but man, this just doesn't look ejectable to me. Sure, I could support calling him out for not sliding legally but getting tossed and having to sit another game is a bit much for this play IMO.
  17. This is a little more like it 😜! This one seems a little quick, but must have had a profanity in there or something.
  18. Stood there for 3 hours...what's another 2 seconds?🀣
  19. Without doing more research, it would seem that the highlighted portion above would make the OP's play INT.
  20. I guess I'd just argue that the behavior doesn't seem to be stopping. I think nailing a couple of these with ejections would help to nip it. If we just warn all the time... I'll qualify that I don't watch a ton of D1 baseball and of course we just see the clusters on social media... Just interesting situations to think about.
  21. I work NCAA as well. I guess I'm of the opinion that they should know that this behavior isn't acceptable. I could see a warning to nip this early and EJs after that, but I guess if a batter starts yelling F bombs at the infielders on a home run trot, that doesn't deserve a warning. Just seems that this type of behavior is happening quite a bit in D1 ball (not my level). Then we see after the game more chirping at each other and benches clearing (still don't think any EJs were issued). Makes it confusing as a part-time NCAA umpire.
  22. As much as I'd like to say I'd eject a BR for yelling (presumed) F bombs at the opponent as he rounds the bases, I definitely want to say I'm ejecting kids for jumping out of the dugout during said HR trot and yelling (presumed) F bombs at the opponent. Kind of sad that the accepted mechanic here is for the U1 to have to come in and police the dugout during the trot. A few EJs and they'd stop and this kind of babysitting wouldn't be needed IMO. Obviously there had to be other things that led up to this, but nonetheless.
  23. Seemed to be the normal misbehavior this weekend. Would seem we should be cracking down and ejecting people over this kind of stuff. I know Vandy wasn't innocent over the course of the weekend either. Thoughts on managing the nonsense?
  24. Makes sense with the "preliminary motion" verbiage in the rule I guess: 11. If a pitcher starts a preliminary motion or a motion to deliver the pitch before the batter is alert and ready to hit, the umpire shall call β€œTime” and issue a warning the first time a pitcher does this. A pitcher shall only receive one (1) warning.
  25. Cool, have not heard that before. Thank you
