Did they sent the runner back to 2d?

The penalty for RLI does not require sending R3 to 2B. :P

I did not realize that. I thought it was treated like any other interference. What is the rule of placing the runner's then because the ball is dead on the RLI

Runners go back to TOP in pro unless there was an intervening play.

Note carefully the position of the runner at the start of the play and the base to which bam wanted to send the runner.

2) Why does Cooper have this 'deer in the headlights' look on his face?

I'm pretty sure I would have been stupefied too by a manager trying to argue that play, if that's in fact what Leyland was doing.  Actually, I probably would have had a hard time not laughing at him.

But it's a no brainer ....he's starting at Leyland as if he didn't know what to say ....it just looks odd

I had this play Sunday - no brainer RLI.  AAU tournament - 14U.  BR's well inside the line and gets hit in the back (F1 throwing from behind him on a weak chopper up the 1B line) a couple of steps short of the bag.  I'm PU trailing up the line and bang the out.  Easiest call I made all weekend.  But now Mr. Know It All fan in the stands is riding me LOUDLY about the call - "That's horrible!  He ON THE LINE - that's HIS baseline!  He got hit in the back!  Terrible Call!"  He's basically one voice in the desert as nobody else seems to disagree with the call.  If the coaches disagreed, I wouldn't know because they didn't come out and I didn't hear a peep from them.  I am ignoring this idiot and set up for the next batter and call the first pitch.  He still at it.  Now, I almost NEVER address the fans in any fashion, but he's now a distraction to the game, IMO.  I call time and take off my mask.  I take a few steps towards the dugout and call loud enough for everyone to hear, "Grant, you need to control your fans."  At this point, the idiot says something like, "That was terrible!" and I then look at him straight in the eye (he's in about the 3rd row of bleachers and I am about 10 feet off the fence) and say, "You need to let it go."  He then says "I'm done now." and I don't hear a peep about it the rest of the game.

When F2 came out the next inning, he asked me where the runner was because they all thought we was on the line.  I just told him he was well into fair territory and it was an easy call.

Thoughts on how I handled it?

He didn't ask if he was sent back to 2B. He asked if he was sent back to a two penny nail.

Ignore them. They might be amusing some fans that know something about the game. Usually they will shut up when some of us start laughing at their antics. Spoken as a spectator/fan at some Indy league games.
