Honestly guys?! As the post is written you have an EJ??? FORGET who wrote it or their number of games .... you have an EJ here? Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

Mentioned in quiet or conversational tone with no prior problems? No.

Yelled out with arms flailing in the air or making a show of it? Yep.

That's the rub, there isn't enough detail but you can't divorce the post from the poster....without being there, that's all we have to go on for context and background.

Did you miss the line where I said he looked at me?

Looked at me making "eye contact".

I don't have a easy or fast trigger.

If you know my posts on here, you know I have very few EJs.

Players, Managers or Coaches.

But a 12 year old is not going to look me in the eyes, use the word YOU and complain about one of my calls.

Edit

Also

Any comment back to a 12 year old will get you a complaint filed by the Manager and or Parents.

Let them complain away.  If you're afraid of managers or parents, look for another avocation.

If the manager comes out complaining, just tell him "You know, your right, instead of actually speaking to the little darling, I should have EJ'd him.  Please give me the number of his replacement."

I feel obligated to consider who is posting as well as what is being posted. Lou is an extremely honorable man who lives his life above reproach. His character is exemplary. And I consider him a brother 3 ways. If he felt an EJ was warranted, far be it from me to second guess a man of his integrity. We should all be the kind of man he is.

That's the magic of the forum.  Many people probably agree, many probably don't.  When I dumped two coaches and later the F2, off of a VFW baseball team, there were people who disagreed with me and people who supported me, I knew that I did what I had to do.  I lost my assignment in the state VFW championship but I don't regret doing what I had to do.

None of you were there, you didn't see everything develop with your eyes.  You can picture the events in your minds, decide in your own minds if I handled it correctly and either agree or disagree.

I happened to disagree with how he handled this EJ based on how it was described in the thread.

Unless he screamed it at me, I wouldn't have tossed him. I doubt I'd have even responded with anything more than a "Nope, sorry." This is no indictment of Semper, just my own opinion. I wasn't there and he was.

Nothing more insulting than having someone say I disagree with you on the internet.....except perhaps a 12 year old asking you if you were kidding them.  Having said that, personally seems a little on the sketchy side and hard assed to dump anyone for that statement, but I wasn't calling the game, so it's all armchair umpire at this point.  If we are all above criticism, reproach and infallible, I would figure there would be pretty much no use for these kind of forums. To be honest it doesn't surprise me the kind of defensive reaction that has been posted on this thread, I've felt the same way when I believed I had a solid EJ, posted it on here and was roundly criticized (by some of the very people who seem to be taking the greatest offense to any criticism given to the OP over this ejection).  We need to post the good, the bad and the ugly, I've learned  how to handle a lot of situations over the years better because people post their mistakes as well as their proper handling of situations.

I do like the thread title however, props to your little one for suggesting it!

WOW!!!!  I'd hate to work in that environment!  So what you're saying is that doing u12 games in this league, you can't comment to any player if they say something to you?  No thanks! U12 brats can be NASTY little punks.   Again, if this is the only words you heard from this kid all game, and he did what you described in your original post, I'd never EJ that unless as discussed, he yelled it, and was using histrionics.   Remember, using the word YOU isn't an automatic EJ.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ the above doesn't mean Lou is a bad umpire...........

Let's face it.   Lou does a TON of games per year from little guys up to adult league (per his profile) and, he's no rookie, we can all agree on that for sure.  He's also a regular here with a good track record and an overall good-guy.   But, all of that doesn't mean you can't disagree with him.   Heck, we have conversations about PROFESSIONALS, MLB umpires screwing the pooch.  And, even though there are people on here that will defend what an MLB guy does just because he's working MLB, we've had many discussions about mitakes on the big league field.  It's ok!  We're allowed.

And, as mentioned in an earlier post, ....  we post, we learn, we agree, we disagree.  That's why we're here, isn't it?

Ok

All Ejs are a HTBT situation.

I also have less than ejs in the last four years than some that disagree have in a season.

Some that have said they would not EJ I take with a grain of salt, since I have seen their posts on EJs and arguments over calls.

In fact I don't ever remember EJ a manager or coach for arguing a call.

I don't always have time to post or ensure every lil fact gets into it.

So to add to the Original OP

He was standing approximately 10 feet from me.

His arms were out stretched, like he just finished making a safe call.

The volume was well above a normal speaking tone and was derogatory and I had no doubt it was directed towards me.

You can agree or disagree.

You really do not know what you would do, unless your in that position at that time.

Otherwise you are a arm chair umpire as was stated.

But that just isn't acceptable coming from a 12 year old playing Elite Travel Ball.

If that was my Sunday Adult league, I would have just walked away.

In the mean time the year is rolling along.

Baseball season in the area officially starts tomorrow and I don't expect to much time off till about July-August.

Already have some calling me to work games like in two days and my response is "If you really want to schedule me, lets look at two weeks from now, not two days".

Plus the "eye contact".  DON'T forget the eye contact.  The eye contact made all the difference for me.

Had something similar tonight.

JV game first batter of the game. 0-2 count. Next pitch right at the hollow of knees. I rung him up. He turns and states at me and says "that was in the dirt"

Then he head towards dugout.

I call time getting ready to toss him. I hear head coach "blue blue I got it, I got it"

I relaxed for a second while HC ejected his own player saving me writing a report.

A coach with some head on him.  Realizes if he does the EJ, he teaches the same lesson without the mandatory state suspension (if FL has one like almost every other high school association).

I commend this coach. This is exactly how it should be.

As a coach, it is my responsibility to let the players (12U) know, in no uncertain terms, that there will be no arguing (none, nada, zip, nothing) with the umpires. I will go over the conduct and deportment I expect at the games. I will have had a meeting with all the parents and the players at the same time about what I expect both from the parents as well as their children in the area of deportment and conduct at a game and towards the umpires or officials as the case may be. I will also talk about what kind of deportment they can expect from me and why I believe it is so important. If by chance, there is to be any verbal conversation with the umpires, it will be me, and me only ,as the HC (manager) who will have that discourse in a respectful manner. I would have no tolerance in this area, regardless of how many umpires are working the game, and especially if only working a 1 man. Who are you kidding here?

As many times as we have said on this board that we have absolutely no tolerance for comments from an AC and how they are to be seen and not heard and should only be telling the players to make a left turn, I cannot comprehend letting a 12U player, throw their arms out or even hold them out and give the old, you got to be kidding me belittling remark, with a condescending and showing you up inflection in their voice towards a grown up while staring the adult right in the face. No wonder these jack wagons grow up as a bunch of prima donna crybabies. Heck, even Victorino got tossed for throwing up his hands in center-field and showing up and plate umpire on the strike zone from 100 yards away. And they always run to their leaders and say they are being disrespected. I know who I personally think is being disrespected in the original post, especially at this age level. Maybe this can fly way higher up, but IMHO, no way at this level. Let them eat beans.

Oh yes, and the player would get the full penalty for the ejection violation(next game, whatever the league penalty. I would not "save" him/her from that either, even though I got to them before the umpire. I might even tack on more. Tough love.

At least tell his coach he called your mother a  :censored:  :censored:  :censored: .  I know you had to be there and I'm sure the gentleman doing the EJ is beyond reproach. When this same thing has happened to me, assuming it wasn't McEnroe, and it was on his way back to the dugout, and since he hasn't specifically said the call was wrong, I tell myself he's saying, "(I) gotta be kidding (myself and everyone here. I slide like fingernails on a chalkboard. I run like Jose Molina with a gout flare up, etc. etc.)"

I even prefer a stern eye contact to anything like "i am serious" or punching him in the face.

However, my partner ejected a kid about the same age in the league championship, when, after a tag play at 2nd, the kid looked at him and said, "that's bull :censored: . They only had 8 left so we went home. I commended him, so way to go, i guess. If you are 12 years old and you try to shove a call up an umpires  :censored: , i suppose you are lucky if you get to stay in the game.

I am not too sure that a punk 12 year old understands a stare....if he's going to raise his hands and say something with volume.....he's not going to be affected by a stare ....he won't get it Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

I don't have a problem dumping him.12 is12 and they get no say what so ever, none. I had a parent want me removed because I responded verbally instead of just getting rid of a petulant child. I told him to shut up and pitch. Evidently that was too strong.I told the dad I was sorry fort the comment, not for the sentiment. I told him he had no business in my conversation.
