Jeff;

I am talking about the newer "pro plus armor" CP that has hard plastic shell on the outside. the older model is first picture on this thread, thats actually a CP135 soft shell., I use that one too, but only for small diamond work.

The second picture on this thread is the actual picture of the pro plus armor version.

Also while I'm on gear... Several years ago I broke my arm multiple times and have to have 2 surgeries. Left arm and as I work the slot it is the most vulnerable. I don't lock it so it doesn't absorb the impact, but it has a big knot from the surgery that is very tender. Last season I took a hard shot to it and it HURT. I know this is part of the game, but do you think its unprofessional to wear a small (8" or so) forearm/wrist guard on that hand? Its basically a short compression sleeve that has padding on one side. I know sleeves with a short sleeve shirt is no good, so does this qualify?

the ones that got bruised and said it wasn't right for upper level games were referring to the soft shell and not downing your CP! Which Im glad I got the stories as it has talked me into a hard shell for sure!

I use the same sort of thing whenever I get one of those goose eggs on my forearm. I see no shame in common sense.

I'm late to this party, but here's my two cents:

http://midwestump.bl...-equipment.html

Here is what I would buy on a tight budget and my wife looking over my shoulder. . .

* Wilson A3009x with leather pads, $64 w/shipping incl. from Anaconda (use 10% code ANACONDA) - you could probably contact Better Baseball and match this deal

* Champion P220 13" chest protector (old style) from Better Baseball $35

* Diamond DLG-UMPLITE150 15" leg guards $29.99 from Better Baseball - if you need a longer guard, don't buy the Diamonds.

* $10 shipping from Better Baseball

$64+35+29.99+10=$138.99

Any one have any issues with that CP?

No .. I know plenty of DI umpires who wear this vest.. remember it is the hard shell plastic that is helping you...

I see, ok, thanks for that, ....that's a different story being hardshell outside. It has lots of gaps, but it's hardshell nonetheless....

Neither do I! But as a teacher I don't often deal with common sense! So I have to make sure.

Same here AJ...I'm a Principal.

I'm also a teacher. Last year I coached in the district and leaving early for games was allowed. However, I'm umpiring this year and I was wondering, from a principal's view, would you be ok if someone left a little early for games on occasion?

I have a teacher in my building that coaches wrestling for HS. He leaves early. It never bothered me as long as he's getting it done in his classroom.

I just received a promotional email from Better Baseball. They are offering 10% discount. Use the code "riseball"

Unrelated and didn't want to start a new topic but just wanted to thank the active participants in this forum, which many are involved in this thread. Thanks to the search function I was able to come up w/ Postal Uniform and fired in an order this week and lookinig forward to receiving a new belt for the season. Ordered the 1.75 inch one. Widest I've had is 1.5. Looking forward to getting it and breaking it in this weekend if the weather cooperates.

Great find on that CP. Heckuva value.

Good thought on Uniform supply stores. I recently found a Uniform supply store tucked away inside an Ace Hardware store near my office. They have 1.75 and 2" real leather belts for $18, $19 in stock.

Nothing I hate more than spending $8 shipping on an $18 belt.

I worried about the gaps too when I bought it. But, I haven't had any issues. It might be my stance, I am a box stance guy, hands on legs, with the fingers tucked just behind my double knee shin guards. At 6 ft, this stance means I "lean in" pretty good to get into the slot. Taken lots of shots on the shoulder caps, and that area on the protector is as tough as any ( in my opinion ) I really like the fact ( and it was proven last year ) and feature of the extra padding around the bottom of neck. When I busted my throat guard last year, the guard smashed against the front of the protector and that lip , and I think I felt the shot more on the chin than I did on the chest. Suprised the heck out of me, I think I was more stunned than hurt. Never had a throat guard shot like that before. Varsity game, and the kid was throwing BB's and the other team was totally overmatched. They were just barely tickiling the fastball, and of course that means I took a beating. I'd say conservatively I have got over 200 games with the protector and have been highly satisfied with the quality.
