I have either a safe or an out. :smachhead:

Did anyone get tossed over this? The argument from the dugout would be that he was tagged high. Live, can't see the plate well enough to call it. I can certainly see the PU calling it either way.

Nobody even questioned it. They went right on to the next play.

Boston didn't argue because they'd already hung 3 in the top of the first and the ball beat the runner to the plate by a good 2 count. Not to mention, John Farrell doesn't exactly have a good track record in deciding whether or not to argue calls at the plate.

Maybe Farrell didn't argue because Napoli didn't so much as bat an eye when he was called out.

what do you think about the screen shot I got? Close enough to make a call?

Of course I know this is in freeze frame and we don't actually have that in the game... but I think he got it right?

I think this is why we are going to see more "reviews" in baseball, I'm afraid....with the advent of multiple cameras at every conceivable angle, super slo-mo where you can see guys out or safe by a "gnat's eyelash" ( all you old-timers out there....anyone know what play by play announcer that came from? Hint: Iron City Beer's home town).  Slo-mo has him safe, I think, but because the ball got there well ahead of the runner and the tag was up the line a bit (albeit applied too high), is the reason no one argued, I'm guessing....

That freeze frame shows  text book perfect positioning by the plate umpire....I would love a framed picture of that for my office !

I can't tell from here if the glove is touching or not.  I had him out in fast motion and safe in Super slo mo. But no one complained, and the ump was in the best location to call it.

Yes, I thought no brainer out at fullspeed.  Mostly because the ball was early and the mitt was there.   It is a reminder to look at how F2 sets up, as 24 says.

I kicked a big one my first year and learned this lesson.     F2 straddled over the plate, ball arrived yesterday and F2 waited and waited for R2 to join the party.   Finally, R2 arrived and slid right in to the mitt.   No brainer out.

Luckily the OM was winning and addressed me between innings and said "Steve, did you notice that the catcher set up over the plate and not in front of it?  My runner had to travel 3 inches over the plate before he got to the mitt."

Well, sh!t. Definitely a lesson learned.

Does anyone else think the PU is too close to the play??  These plays have a habit of blowing up on you when you are this close.
