:46 shows a view very similar to Balkin Bob's. Hard to imagine the how and why of his perspective and call.

Looks like he was trying to watch for pulled foot at 1st and didn't think R3 would come home.

Now that's a perfect use of instant replay.  It is for this reason alone I like it so much (there are other reasons I don't like it, but that was covered extensively in another thread).

You  make a good point but we would not need IR on this play if he was 3blx.

I agree, but the fact is we're dealing with an egregious umpiring error, and that's what IR is perfect for correcting.  Not only is Bob Davidson human, he's, well, Bob Davidson.

^^^^ This...who tries to score on a play like this ? I'm sure BD knows about 3BLX...he just got surprised (an umpire's worst enemy).

Billy Hamilton does. Dude's got wheels.

3BLX definitely would have helped out here but too many guys these days go exclusively 3BLX. At some point you're gonna have to umpire and that means not just going to an X on the ground and working every play from there.

Also in this video...How is that delivery not a balk?  Not coming set, back heel coming up before delivery.  I'm a new 2 year umpire and would balk that immediately.  Just wondeiring if the veterans here see something I'm missing.

Nice pick up on the balk. I didn't see that the first time through or even the second time through until I saw that you had mentioned it. I can understand why it was missed though. You rarely see that at the upper levels especially in professional baseball so sometimes stuff like this gets missed.

He was in the windup. That's the only way it could be legal.

It seems that U1 wasn't expecting R3 to break from 3B and things blew up on him. I've been there. With R3, I am constantly self-talking various responsibilities for various situations because they are not instinctual for me yet.

If BBD didn't balk that delivery, it wasn't a balk. Right?
