  1. You don't get this level of access as a fan. THIS is why we umpire...we have the best seat in the house! Not for the praise...but to be a part of the game. The fans have no idea of the relationships we develop over the years with players and coaches. We might get upset from time to time, and we might make calls that cause them stress at times...but at the end of the day, people just don't understand how connected to the game we are. Thanks for sharing!
  2. Great transaction with @RERaunio...prompt payment and great communication.
  3. It isn't fun anymore. I dread the road time, I dread getting paired with certain partners, I dread chapter meetings and politics, the coaches, the fans, the players don't appreciate you, the pay stinks, its too hot, its too cold...the same ol' stuff! Also, I've become really involved in other things like church and I'm at a point in my life where the extra few dollars I make aren't essential. I've been away from my family long enough (3 sports for 15 years)...and my body isn't getting any younger. I gave up hoops a few years ago, but I'm going to keep doing football (it's only once a week and with a crew I love). Add it all up, and it is just time. I was fortunate enough to get to work the state finals this year. I figured it wasn't going to get much better than that for me...so I'm pulling a Manning and going out on top!
  4. Don't have a Golden Coral...but I do have this still for sale!
  5. Sold...Lock it up!
  6. They seem about normal!
  7. Yes
  8. Actually, I want an Apple Watch! Pics added to the OP. This CP is in great shape and will last someone an entire career while protecting them at any level of ball.
  9. $90 Shipped to your door. Used 1 season.
  10. $25 sound ok? Used one season.
  11. This unit cost me $300 by the time I paid shipping both ways to TW and the harness. Yes...I'm asking for $100 premium + $20 shipping because I did all the work to get it done and it is now extinct. If the market won't support that, I'll keep it...no hard feelings guys!
  12. Used one season & has a System 7 harness. $420 shipped.
  13. He has no social media presence any longer (and probably shouldn't). I'm sure that the MLB bosses straightened that out in about 15 seconds.
  14. If I order from Honigs before 3pm, I get next day delivery at the standard rate. (unless it is a special order)
  15. I have a friend who has a WVP with the Team Wendy retro (1 year old) and a System 7 harness and he is thinking of getting out of baseball. He asked me what he could get for his CP. I told him that I'd ask around here and see if any had been sold or if anyone was looking. I know he has about $300 in it. I don't want bids...just what you would be willing to pay or what you've seen others pay now that the TW fit is no longer available.
  16. Another vote for F3/UE. Its like having nothing on at all...except for when you get hit and don't feel it.
  17. As this whole thing has played out...the one thing that I just can't get over is the so called "journalists" who are putting their names on a byline and writing about this without consulting any umpires. They are responsible for this going viral by spinning it into a story when there really isn't a story there. It is actually sad.
  18. Missed pitches happen. It is a part of the game. I'd be willing to bet that the pitcher missed his spot a lot more times than you did. You are right that timing and composure are critical...but if this happened in the 4th inning, you wouldn't be here talking about it. The game is 7 or 9 innings by design. Runs stand on the board for the whole game. Missed pitches in the 9th aren't any more or less critical than the ones earlier in the game. They may be more magnified because the ability to overcome them is shortened, but fractionally speaking, there is little difference. Your night of work was probably well above 90% and that's a good night!
  19. I see this as a complete prank where the 1B ump is letting his buddy on the dish know he was there to make the call...and now he has to bend over and brush off the plate. Everyone on the internet sees this as a dirty ump trying to keep the kid from touching the plate. You make the call.
  20. Agree...I respect Ron Teague...but no way in hell that manager gets another trip to the mound or a ball from me. The only thing I could think of was that the skipper may have been in there the whole time telling him that he did the right thing and that the ejection was 100% justified...if Ron knew he wasn't mad at him, maybe I can see that tossing him a ball is OK.
