Mound Visit

What do you guys say when you go to break up a mound visit?

Something along the lines of "alright gentlemen let's play ball".

97% of the time I don't have to say anything.  The manager knows you are there , finishes his last sentence and it breaks up.

2.5% of the time, he's stalling for the bullpen pitcher to get in another throw.  I just ask if he's going to make a change.

.5% of the  time he wants to talk to me.  I know it, and head out immediately, and engage him in conversation as long as it's reasonably civil as I escort him about halfway back to the foul line before I break off and head for the plate.

I do music and sports production for my former high school which includes keeping all the music up to date. We have a number of songs for visiting mound visits including the Bull Durham mound visit which I cut up and cleaned. Always gets a laugh.

My dogs act like players/coaches on the mound visits when it's time to come in on nice days. They just lay there until I walk out to bring them back in.

I would say .5% of the time, when you tell him from the plate area to wrap it up, and he casually looks at you and does not move, he wants to get tossed and baits you into coming to the mound to sound off, in which case I stay where I am.

I tell the count or the number of outs. They get the picture.

I once told a 17u coach "Let's not drag this out. I've got a hot date with the base umpire."

He looked at him, then me, and I said "Don't tell his wife."

My husband was the BU. I fessed up to the coach after the game. He got a good laugh.
