What is your favorite call of the three listed below?

BR out at 2nd when you are the PU and your partner in A went out on a fly ball

BR out at 1st on a hot shot to RF where you rotate from A inside and get the whacker at the bag

Rotating down from 1B to the plate to get the out on a play at the plate

All of those are fun and I've been lucky enough to get each one and look good doing it.  My proudest moment as an umpire was calling a BR out at 2nd from the PU position (the first time I had ever made that rotation and made that call in my career) and the offensive coach says, "Great hustle blue."  It made me proud to know that I worked hard to get that call right and that the coach who didn't get the benefit of the close call recognized my effort.

What is yours?

My favorite call this year. Bottom of 7th inning. Runners on 1st and 3rd. 2 outs 3-2 count. R1 off on the pitch. Base hit to right. I get on my horse and rotate to 3rd. I get to the Library plant and get set right as the ball, Runner and Fielder show up. I bang the kid out drop the balls at 3rd and walk right out the gate to go home(with my partner of course). Game time 1 hour 25 minutes.

Games Worked Too Damn Many

My favorite call is the no-out infield fly that gets dropped, followed by mass confusion and a triple play. Hilarity ensues.

Bill, it's like no one can read your instructions. Geez.

I pick number three. For the uneducated, it's the least expected. Plus, your umpire pals in the crowd will give you a nice golf clap, too.

Swinging Strike 3 Batter Interference on F2 unsuccessfully trying to throw out R1 stealing 2B.  As Ernie Harwell used to say..."Two for the price of one!"

Favorite call is definitely "That's it!", arms up in the air. Weather has halted the game in the second inning, and I get paid and go home.

Last season my partner and I pre-gamed the first scenario (PU covers 2B if BU goes "out") and of course it happens in the game.  We both nailed it perfectly.  He went out and stayed out and I busted through the infield to cover 2B to bang out the runner.  We both made eye contact and had smiled as we made it back to our positions.  Had a fan walk up to us after the game and say...."I've never seen a plate ump make a call at 2nd before!!".

That is the 'coolest looking' play of the choices. It happens more than you would think - this is a definite that needs to be pre-gamed.

When you pull it off with the base guy with a great angle making the no-catch call and then the plate guy making the call at second base like it is a three man crew - priceless!

Two recent favorite plays of mine:

1. Worked a game with a partner new to me. As a BU in A, deep fly ball that I go out on that ends up being uncaught. Just as my partner and I pre-gamed, I rotated back down to home and was standing at the point of the plate ready for a call. He looked back, saw me and gave me a nod.

2. Called a balk as BU that the batter hit for a base hit and resulted in the R1 being thrown out at 3B.

Stand up work ? I will be standing up working 7 games on Saturday's Strikes Against Cancer benefit tournament. They still have 9 more fields to cover if any of you are in North Texas this weekend. That'll be plenty of stand-up work.

I do love banging BR out at 2nd as PU.

A real simple one is as U3 in 3-man: no one on, ground ball to F6 who airmails to first, I've moved infield from D and have time to read the newspaper to call the BR out, caught trying to get the extra base for the 3rd out, followed by the trot out to short-LF. Had that in my second 3-man game to end the top of the 1st - knew I had my stuff together and the nerves I'd had disappeared instantly.

Going out from A on a trouble ball then busting it home in 2-man to bang the runner on an inside the park attempt!  2nd guy into a run down with your plate gear and getting the call?

How could either of those be other than live ball?

Just like this.

I didn't see this until today Rick. Holler at me next time they do a tournament. I'd be happy to donate my time.
