Just have to say. I bought these new for this year. Tried them out for the first time yesterday.

They...are...fantastic. They stayed put on my legs, didn't turn, were comfortable to wear and light.

Didn't take a shot to them yet, se we shall see how that goes.

I am very glad I bought these and I think they will be my go to shins.

Also the delta flex harness is awesome. Kudos to all the guys who suggested it. My platinum fits perfectly now. No more adjusting it every game.

@VAUmp

Best deal is ABUA site. Umpire.org. If you join ABUA they offer discounted prices. I got premium level because the liability insurance with that level covers all sports you work. The lost game fees insurance was also a factor for me although you have to jump through hoops to get it. However, nobody else offers that type of benefit at all as far as I know. I got shins for $99.95 and CP for $150 more. Not sure what discount deal is for lower level membership. Worked for me. I'm not a big NASO fan. They've taken reall good care of me at ABUA so I am a fan. They will make it right if there is a problem. Now they also have a price break combo deal with the Defender mask.

I know Honigs and Douglas are selling the masks. Another ABUA related site-brand of the UE gear, force3progear.com has it as well.

ump-attire.com and Marvin Hudson 51 are both selling the masks and Hudson 51 is selling the shins as well.

I have not used the UE shins in action yet, but trying them on, they feel like they surround and hug your legs. I used the UE chest protector last season, and it worked flawlessly. Now that I have the Delta Flex, the protector fits amazingly well , and I can't wait to try it out.

Don't understand the hype on UE. Didn't feel any better to me when I tried them.

Like all gear I think its a personal thing, I've never tried them and don't intend to my K10's seem top of the line to me, if others love UE's thats great but we all have our preferences.

When you do, you'll love then even more. I've taken a few decent sots. I virtually haven't felt a thing.  Great protection.

I apologize if this has been discussed already, but with the  UE CP being the MOST expensive CP on the market, how do you keep it clean and what is the life expectancy of the foam surrounding the kevlar? I'm not knocking the protective value of it, but with most other CP's, AS, Wilson, Douglas, V-Pro, you can replace worn out padding or send it to TW for a retro fit. Does UE have a way of refurbishing the padding?

Do umpires typically feel "shots" to their LGs? I caught for many years as a player and still catch sporadically and I don't recall ever feeling pain after taking a shot directly off the LGs. Foul balls, wild pitches, passed balls, getting crossed up, etc. Of course I was hit on my unprotected areas a lot (quads/inner thigh, forearms, toes) but I never took one square to the LGs that made me think twice. Maybe I was lucky for tens of thousands of pitches.

All I can say is I've taken direct shots off my knee with lesser SGs and have absolutely felt it. With the UEs, there's nothing. Even on the shin itself, I wouldn't say I've ever felt "pain" from a direct shot, but I've surely felt it, and with the UEs, I can honestly say, there's absolutely nothing.

If the pitcher is throwing hard enough you will most definitely feel it.  Went for almost ten years without a problem in DaviShins by Wilson.  Then, last spring college season, got plunked twice in same spot on left shin.  Then on right and left kneecaps and felt all of the hits.  Could barely walk for a couple of days.  Ordered UE shins.  Got plunked a few more times since  in both knees and shins and never feel a thing.  And they are lighter, cooler and more comfortable (except for the strap behind my knee which the DaviShins did not have.)

I have both. Can't ever imagine how I used anything else. But that's me. The UE CP and LG's are the best on the market for me. Not for everyone but for me.

My experience is just like Majordave's. I have the Premium ABUA insurance and got the UE package deal. I love the CP. I absolutely forget that I have the shins on because they feel like part of my legs.

Picked up some UE shins today and I must say they feel pretty good. I think I will leave the extra padding in because they feel more comfortable and snug. Paid $100 for them and sold my Davis Shins for $50 so this is an excellent upgrade.

Sending in my West Vest Gold for a retro fit and will probably buy a UE CP as well. I figure I make enough in game fees for these upgrades an might as well pull the trigger.

@midtnump

The UE CP is hand washable. I've done it. Just the same way I washed padding in my WV Gold. Warm soapy water, rinse it well, hang dry. I spray Lysol on it after a game. I also spray febreeze on it occasionally.

I wore the Gold for 8 years washing it once a year. A guy on here, Ironman, has it now. I see no reason the UE won't last at least that long if I care for it the same way.

regardless of what CP you have .... try "Febreeze Sport" after games ....very nice! :nod:

I don't have a dog in the hunt either way, but I still haven't figured out why the UE shin guards need plastic on them if the chest protector doesn't need it over the heart and other organs.

Because its very hard to mold foam/Kevlar over the shoulder or over the legs and knees without a plastic shell

ABUA Store site says the Shins have a thin layer of Kevlar in the interior padding.  The shin has two levels/layers of padding.  One is thicker and velcro attaches to the plastic shinguard so I don't know and couldn't tell which padding has the Kevlar.

As to why plastic I guess so it will stay on the leg properly and probably because no one would take them seriously if they didn't have it.  I do know that they are amazingly light and the plastic portion has vents in it so some air comes through.  I also know that the CP is rather heavy.  Probably twice as heavy as my WV Gold was.  It kind of surprised me the first time I picked it up as to how much it weighed and how substantial it felt.  What I like the most about it is how it snugs around your body wrapping your ribs and upper abdomen.  I guess they could have put hard plates on it but that would be overkill.  I know you hard plate guys think it won't protect and you can't get past it.  I was very skeptical too.  I was a diehard WV Gold fan.  But, this CP although remarkably heavier, is the real deal.  And the shins, although they look just as substantial, are very light and really fit well.

I was skeptical about the S7 Delta-Flex harness.  How could a piece of neoprene make so much of a difference? Love it and could not imagine wearing a CP without it now.   I was enthusiastic about Team Wendy's pads, I wore them in my helmet in Afghanistan.   Did not like them at all when I tried them.

To each his own.   Thank God for choices.

To each his own.
