As to why plastic I guess so it will stay on the leg properly and probably because no one would take them seriously if they didn't have it.

This is why I don't take their CP seriously.

I refuse to risk taking a 93 mph pitch straight to the heart (as a friend of mine did yesterday) with just kevlar and some foam padding to stop it. That can f-up your heart. Personally, I want something more.

My partner Saturday wore one. He said he was not very convinced so far. He had taken some shots and he said he for sure felt them and they didn't feel good.

The CP is definitely low profile, but I am dubious of the protection as well.

ABUA Store site says the Shins have a thin layer of Kevlar in the interior padding.  The shin has two levels/layers of padding.  One is thicker and velcro attaches to the plastic shinguard so I don't know and couldn't tell which padding has the Kevlar.

As to why plastic I guess so it will stay on the leg properly and probably because no one would take them seriously if they didn't have it.  I do know that they are amazingly light and the plastic portion has vents in it so some air comes through.  I also know that the CP is rather heavy.  Probably twice as heavy as my WV Gold was.  It kind of surprised me the first time I picked it up as to how much it weighed and how substantial it felt.  What I like the most about it is how it snugs around your body wrapping your ribs and upper abdomen.  I guess they could have put hard plates on it but that would be overkill.  I know you hard plate guys think it won't protect and you can't get past it.  I was very skeptical too.  I was a diehard WV Gold fan.  But, this CP although remarkably heavier, is the real deal.  And the shins, although they look just as substantial, are very light and really fit well.

I was skeptical about the S7 Delta-Flex harness.  How could a piece of neoprene make so much of a difference? Love it and could not imagine wearing a CP without it now.   I was enthusiastic about Team Wendy's pads, I wore them in my helmet in Afghanistan.   Did not like them at all when I tried them.

To each his own.   Thank God for choices.

To each his own.

You are right saying, "To each his own."  It's obvious from this site that everyone has their own satisfaction with CPs, shins, shoes, shirts, pants, etc.

I own the Unequal CP, and it just feels very comfortable to me after it is in place. I don't think it's heavy at all...but I switched over from the Honigs K-1 about a year ago. The argument over protection will never end unless someone can prove the original designers wrong. All other opinions are just that...opinions.

As far as the Unequal shins, I think they are super (you forget they are attached to your leg). As far as their protection, I was told that you don't need the interior padding that is velco'd on the inside. The padding is a comfort feature only...it may supplies only a little extra protection to the leg.  Evidently, the protection you need is permanently attached by metal rivets to the inside of the plastic exterior.  So, I tried them last season w/o the padding and they were fine...even lower profile and they did not catch on the pants. Wearing a thin legging also helps comfort.

The argument is always the same. Some people() LOVE the UE CP. Some people do not. I know of atleast 2 D1 College umpires who wear it. They love it. I know about 10 of us in my association that wear it. They love it. I also know about 25 people who say they will never trust it. Each to their own. I love it and the shin guards. But you may not.

Magic,

I think that's one of the most common sense/rational posts I've ever seen here on this site about this CP! :D

I don't have a dog in the hunt either way, but I still haven't figured out why the UE shin guards need plastic on them if the chest protector doesn't need it over the heart and other organs.

The WOW factor.

Shin guards without plastic would basically be the lamest looking piece of equipment ever. Like really who would wear foam shin guards. Ew. No. Lame.
