this popped up in another thread but wanted to bring it here .....

everything seem kosher here?  Is this 7.07? Or ... since we have a 'bailed' batter, it doesn't apply?

As I see it, F2 was still behind the plate when he caught the ball (even if he did reach over or maybe in front of the plate).  You need to see more "interference" to call CI here.

Agree. As usual, no hindrance = no INT.

The rule lowers the bar a bit: when F2 comes out over the plate, he hinders the B's capacity to offer at the pitch. No swing is required in this instance, which is a lower standard than usual for CI.

But the bar is not so low that INT is "automatic" just for F2 being out over the plate.

With runners on base and a pitch slips from F1's hand, it is a "ball" if the pitch attempt crosses the foul line and a balk if doesn't (failure to deliver the pitch). So if F2 prevents the pitch from crossing the plate, why is it not a balk ?

It's not F1's fault if F2 leaves his box too early on a pitch either...

Batter didn't start to bail until F2 threw up his hands and started forward. INT all day.

So if the catcher's actions cause the batter to vacate his position, that's INT. If he says "BOO" and the batter runs away in terror, that's INT?

I'd love to hear a rule reference on this.

....Or did he bail when he noticed a 6-2, 230lb Nelson Cruz running full tilt right at him?

As long as he takes a "normal" one (in that he does not step back or swing late), is there anything preventing the batter from taking a swing here?   Then, the contact would make the CI call pretty easy.
