JaxRolo - why a big no to the ix3? What other soft shells would people recommend?

No soft shells should ever be worn!

I started out with an ix3. Took a shot to the chest and thought I was going to die. Went home and ordered a Gold

So nobody recommends a soft shell at all? How do we get around the hard shell being bulky?

I recommended the Unequal for you.

Really?

The unequal is quite expensive. I'm also in Australia which makes things more difficult to purchase. The fastest pitch I would stand in front of may be 90km (55mph).

The unequal is the best low profile CP there is... so far, I am not totally 100% convinced because I haven't been really drilled. Also you previously stated the highest level you will work is U17/U19, I highly doubt they through 55 MPH at these levels. If you want low profile than go the unequal route if you desire the ultimate protection go the hard shell route.

I personally wear a Diamond iX3 Umpire Chest Protector and I currently do JUCO (Junior College) and some DII. I have used it for 2 years now with no issues, including several games in which the eventual JUCO National Champion played. Last summer, I went to an ASA 12U National Championship and talked with a couple of female Schutt reps about the new Scorpion Umpire Chest Protector. http://www.schuttsports.com/aspx/Sport/ProductCatalog.aspx?id=1277

They didn't have a sample, as it was just coming out, but one of them had her own personal Scorpion CP in the car. What is great about this CP is it is based on the Scorpion Catcher's CP, which is made specifically for women. It is super lightweight and fits very comfortably.

This online retailer has it for $54.95 and does ship internationally and you can calculate the shipping with the item in the cart. They also carry the Schutt Air-Flex 2 Umpire Chest Protector.

I need a new equipment bag and some pants, but this will definitely be my next purchase.

I imagine none of the guys here have used it because it just came out this fall. Do you softball or baseball?

Softball. I'm having difficulty trying to source the chest protector, leggings and mask from America. No one in Aus seems to have it. Is it just because it's new to the market? The website you linked through doesn't have the face mask. I sent them a website form asking some questions and they haven't gotten back to me. Do you know any other suppliers I could ask. Have even sent an email to the schutt store itself - awaiting a reply.

@nicfindlay - I recommend you contact @JimKirk at UmpAttire.com with your dilemma. He is exceptional with his customer service and I'm sure he would/could work something out for you.

I would be in <3 with Ump-Attire if they took paypal. They could help with the leggings and mask, but I don't think they carry the schutt cp.

When I did softball I wore a Honigs K1.

Honig's also sells these, and they say they are specifically for softball:

I had a few friends who used this one:

Might be worth a look.

That softball specific CP is a HUGE no-no for women... a CP for women is the equilvalent to a cup for men.
