Just out of curiosity, how many folks get umpire gear/clothes/reference books for the holidays?

Does you family know where you shop? Do you provide a link and wish list?

Just curious.

I always ask for gear for birthdays and Christmas. When my wife asked for my wish list, I gave her explicit descriptions, web links, and retail values.

I tell my family: "I want gear and I don't trust you. Give me the money and I'll take care of the rest. If you'd like when it comes in the mail I'll invite you over and act surprised while opening it." :D

I got my current chest protector and shin guards (first umpire's ones rather than using catcher's gear) as birthday presents earlier this year. Bought through ump-attire, based on details in my amazon wish list.

All the things I want, but either don't need immediately or don't feel financially justifiable at the time. I don't need a therma base jacket in the middle of summer, or a navy and a black ball bag to add to the one of each I already have so I can have wear matching pairs, in both colours so I can match with the colour of my partner's cap - the local association has had navy caps in the past, but has black ones now - but I like the idea of looking that much more like the pros.

I'd only have a problem if I bought everything I thought would be nice to have regardless of the limited or possibly non-existent use I'd likely get out of it, rather than just letting everyone else know what I wanted and getting them to buy it for me.

I swear I don't have a problem.

Anytime my wife decides to buy me any gear/uniform/accessory, she does the smart thing. She talks to Pete Jr, and he steers her in the right direction. Normally to ump-attire, and he decides what I get, lol...

I usually get a piece of gear for Christmas. I pick it out, I buy it and tell the wife, don't worry about my gift...I got it. Otherwise, I'm not getting what I need or want. Got a pair of plate shoes this year.  :D

I keep telling my wife, just get me a gift certificate to UA or Honigs. I can take care of the rest. She hates it cause she wants to get me "something special" and I tell her that this is what I want. Needed things this year are a new mask, most likely (thanks to @Thunderheads and @catcher it will most likely be a powder coated FM25). Also on the list are new Polywools and a throat guard (may have found a Spyder here in the states for about the same as it would cost from Japan).

everything else is a bonus.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one that has these issues with my better half.

Just how many people have issues with @BT_Blue's better half?

I asked for BRD, Poly Wool Plate and Base Pants, Ball bags, Majestic Shirts, and New Hats. I gave her links to it all. We shall see how she does.

SWMBO is getting me some TW Tan pads for the new powder coated (Flat Black) Wilson Ti mask I just got back.  I gave her the link to honigs and told her the color.  Hopefully she doesn't screw it up.

Just logged into UA, placed and order and changed the shipping address to SWMBO's work.

Now just have to work on my "surprised" look....

It's really amusing seeing all of these complaints about how your wives mess up the gear orders you want, I'm not going to lie.

It was funny was funny for me too until I got one. The worry is quite real I assure you.

As for me, talked about it so much SWMBO broke and told me she got me a FM25 mask that will go with my tan TW pads. Also currently working on obtaining a Sypder throat guard but we will see. The rest have been pointed to the Honigs gift card site to help with purchases that will need to be made for the upcoming season.

I honestly can say that I don't need anything new! This is a first! Of course if a good deal came along I would probably have to buy!

I am with you Jax...I really don't need anything right now. I even have a couple of pairs of shin guards that I am trying to unload....too much gear hoarding this past year.

I am sure I could find something that I wanted, but I think I am pretty well stocked up for the 2014 season.

I technically speaking don't need anything new for christmas this year as I already have a surplus of gear laying around. I did however throw out a few "subtle" hints for a few things.

Spending more this xmas than usual. Two pair of polywools, 4 Magestic pro-style, 1 long sleeve Honigs, 3 jackets (2 for me and 1 for son), plate coat, 2 pair of last years Reebok plate shoes (a pair for me and a pair for son). Whew, is that all?

My SWMBO just called me @ work and said to meet her @ Honig's.  I'm needing some stuff and she said I want you to get it, you need it.  I'm getting my first poly-wools (base and plate) and a Majestic Therma Base!  I tell you what, she is good to me.  I'm as  giddy as a schoolboy on his first date!
